I'm not sure.

I once cancelled a dental appointment because I was sick.

They were snarky about it and said "Well, since you haven't done this before".

And this was in the days when they didn't wear masks and gloves.

When I've had to cancel a dental appt for being ill, I just tell the receptionist that I am ill and don't think they would appreciate my coming in and they're always very happy that I am not coming.
I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

This question is similar to the 'going to work sick' thread.

There isn't really anything I can do about this either way, as it doesn't directly involve me, but I'm interested in peoples thoughts.

My mum is a teacher, and has picked up a virus which is going through the school she works at. Its obviously very contagious as half of her class were off last week, nearly all teachers have it etc. She went to work anyway, which I think that was different from going to work in an office type situation, as there were so many sick kids, everyone was exposed whether she was there or not.

Anyway, she has dragged herself out to a salon appointment this morning, quite a long appointment for haircut, highlights, facial etc.

I would assume that there is a good chance she could pass it on to the beautician.

Is it rude to have done this, rather than cancel?

On one hand I'm sympathetic as its a very busy salon and there would be a long wait for another one, and she must be smart for work. She feels she has no choice but to go, although she feels bad. Also that its just 'life' - she can't avoid germs, its part of the job working with people. And that the salon could of course refuse her.

I do feel sorry for her regular hairdresser though, who will probably be ill next week. (Chanches are I will too lol)

What do you think, if you care to tell me  :)

I would have been unhappy with someone coming in ill, whether I were the hairdresser or a customer.  If she could have gone to work the day or two before with her old 'do' a few more days couldn't have made any difference.  If it is that important to get regularly styled, I suggest that she have a hair style that can be worn a different way when it gets longer so that she looks nice regardless of whether she can get an immediate appointment or not.
I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

I called to cancel a dental appointment due to a bad cold/cough, and they said that as long as I wasn't running a fever, they preferred that I come in.

My salon has a sign on the front  door asking that "if you are unwell or have a cold/flu we will not be treating you, as we must think about the rest of our customers, you will be asked to reschedule". I always assumed that this was standard practice so I am a bit astounded that this is not so.

That definately seems fair

Thank you for the replies, I'm still in two minds I think.

Mum just left for work, still sick, but with nice hair lol.

Think I've just come down with it, ah well.

I also cancelled a dentist appointment because of a cold.  Not because of my concern for the dentist and his staff (never even dawned on me at the time!  I'm so self-centered!), but because I was deathly afraid of coughing or sneezing during a time when the dentist had that nasty drill in my tooth, and getting my tongue pierced by accident.

At the time, the dentist agreed with me that it was a good call.  He didn't want to pierce my tongue either.  lol
