My neighbor
« on: January 20, 2007, 02:10:55 PM »
Reading through the neighbor hell has inspired me to share a story about mine.

I will refer to him as L. L is very overbearing and it has seemed easier to deal with him than confront him. L will knock on our door only to walk in our house anyway.

My husband works from home and I go to school. I am generally home by 1pm and my son doesn't get home from school until 3:30. So on this particular day, my husband and I were having an "afternoon delight". We didn't have our bedroom door closed because we thought we were alone. Our room is on the first floor.

Well, the neighbor calls about 20 minutes later. I answer the phone and he starts laughing. L says "I figured you wouldn't answer the phone." He then starts to discribe what he saw. I was screaming at him about knocking. He said he knocked but we didn't answer so he just walked in.

To make matters worse, a few weeks went by. I was still upset. We were outside on the deck having a couple of drinks with my sister. L comes over and proceeds to tell my sister about it. He then begins to act out what he saw on the deck, laying on it.. among other postions.

Needless to say we are moving.

I would keep the doors locked (exterior doors, I mean). It's good security even if all of the neighbors can respect closed doors.

And I would call the police to see if he can be charged with trespass.........even if he didn't "break and enter" he DID trespass into a private home where he was neither a resident nor invited.

L is disgusting.

I don't think "overbearing" is the proper term either. Something more akin to "boorish, disgusting, horrible excuse for wasted oxygen"

The absolute NERVE of some people!

Oh yeah, lock your doors too.

WHY havn't you called the police already?  ??? That seems like the obvious thing to do, especially when you have a child in the house.

Are you really moving just becasue of him if you havn't tried other options such as a restraining order from the police?

Your neighbor sounds like a sick person.  Keep your doors locked.
I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

The act of opening the door (locked or not) constitutes breaking and entering.

This guy sounds like a candidate for a restraining order.

:o  [picks jaw up from floor]

This is creepy beyond belief, in addtion to being illegal.  This man had no right whatsoever to walk into your home regardless of where the keys are at the time.

However, if you get him arrested, you might not have to move.

I don't understand why you don't keep your door locked when you are at home. I couldn't imagine not having the door locked at all times.

Exactly.  Even if you live in a "safe" neighborhood, you should always lock the door.  Especially if you have a creep-o neighbor who barges in.  I once had a roommate who could not remember to lock the door.  I was on vacation when I got a call that she had left the door unlocked, and a drug addict had come in.  He made himself at home playing with my roommate's hamster (which he left to roam free in the apartment), watching T.V., and sleeping in my bed (EWWWW!  I washed my bedding about 50 times!).  The police caught him when Goldilocks woke up and decided to go next door, where the neighbors were home, and cook himself some food.

I agree. After the first time he walked in I would make sure to have the door locked.

Agreeing with the others who have expressed surprise that the doors were unlocked to begin with!

(Not saying that the neighbor isn't completely creepy.  Just confusion that, in this day and age, people aren't locking their doors.)

I'm thirding or fourthing the suggestion to keep your doors locked. This person isn't in need of a lesson in etiquette - he knows that he's breaking social boundaries, and doesn't care. Short of a lock, I don't think you'll get him to stop.

We dont keep our doors locked when we are home. To much in and out and we can see both front and back door from our living room.
