The writer of a blog I read (that I found out about on the old Dephooey EHell forum) likes to give people things on her birthday instead of receiving things, herself. This year she's set up a charity challenge via DonorsChoose, an organization that allows teachers to submit proposals for the things they need and ask for donations. Once the money is raised, DonorsChoose purchases the materials and delivers them to the school.
If you have a blog of your own, it'd be great if you'd link to it and ask your blogger friends to do the same. If not, you can feed your desire to forward an e-mail (you know you want to!) to everyone whose e-mail you've ever had. Or you can just make a donation of your own. There's a $20,000 goal -- 20,000 people giving $1 apiece, blah blah blah.
