how did you come up with your nickname?
« on: December 07, 2006, 04:07:23 AM »
I was posting something else when I thought of this thread (why does this always happen to me?).

Sooo...how did you come up with your nickname? I've heard a few explanations of a few nicknames here and there, but I'm sure more than a few of you have wondered why I call myself "moonbunny" and what the heck it means.

MoonBunny actually comes from a few things...it comes from the fact that I was born in the Chinese year of the Rabbit, and even before I knew that, I've always loved and collected stuffed bunnies. :) Plus, I was an Easter-week baby (born on a Maundy Thursday) , so many of the stuffed animals I was given as a baby (though none have, sadly, survived) were bunnies.

The Moon part comes from the old fairy tale about the Rabbit in the Moon, which I've heard different origins for. I've heard it's either Japanese or Maya in origin, but either way I like the idea of a rabbit in the moon better than a man in the moon. :) Also, when I was in college, I was a big Sailor Moon fan, and Sailor Moon's Japanese name, Tsukino Usagi, means "rabbit of the moon."

My ex-BF made me a wonderful drawing based on an idea I gave him of a rabbit in the moon, the scan of which I used as a logo for my LiveJournal. He later sent me the sketches and the actual drawing he made for me via snail-mail, which was why I fell for him. Although sadly, we're not together anymore, the MoonBunny picture (which is what he and I called it) still remains on my wall, a reminder of the good times we had.

And now I'm getting all teary, so here ends my explanation of my nickname. What's yours?

I got mine from the videogame franchise, Final Fantasy. Almost of the Final Fantasy games have moogles, except for I, II and I think V.  VI has the only playable moogle.

Mine is a reminder that I don't have it as bad as I think.

I continually get told that I am so lucky to have what I have.  I am 22, married to my soulmate, a homeowner, and working in an awesome job.  My single cousins who still live at home, tell me every Christmas that I am such a lucky duck (a phrase our Grandma used).  So every time I start to spiral down (works to hard, bills are eating my money, RedNut is being horrible) I tell myself that I am a Lucky Ducky.

My name is borrowed from the main female character in one of the best Sami movies ever made. It really was my favourite movie for quite a while, and I still think it's great. I don't know if it has got an English name, but the original name is Ofelas, wich roughly translates into the Guide.

Anybody know how to insert special letters? That last s is meant to wear a tiny v...

Mine is actually the name of a character I play in a long running Star Wars roleplay.  I'm really not using my real name :)

Mine is borrowed from the Peter S. Beagle story "Come Lady Death," where death is not cruel, but war, and disease, and humans can be. I've used it for years on different boards, because I work with hospice and geriatric patients.

I'm only a little morbid, really.

Not that morbid!  I'm looking forward to meeting Mr. Beagle this coming October, so I'm trying to catch up on his work beyond The Last Unicorn.  What would you recommend?

Mine's a favorite color.  It's also one of those colors that everyone either loves or hates, much like myself.   ;D

Mine is an anagram of my real name. It comes from when I was at college and we had necklaces with cube beads with letters on and we mixed them up.

Tabris is the main character of my first published novel, The Guardian. He's a guardian angel who broke the one written law for guardian angels, but somehow manages to get a second chance.

"Philangelus" is Latin for "friend of angels" which I would like to be, although it's probably like the way my three year old said she was friends with the sixteen year old across the street.  ::)

Tabris is on indefinite hiatus. You can still visit me at my weblog. Thank you.

Well, my name is Xanthia, and I am GREAT!!!

Also, it is a joke about when people were saying what my new great nephew would call certain people. I told them "Well, he can call me Xanthia the Great...Aunt, or just Great if he wants to."  they now refer to me as "Great"

Sophia is a name from my geneology.   I was looking at my Norwegian great-grandfathers tree back to his great-grandparents.  All these long Norwegian names with (dadsname)son or (dadsname)datter as middle names.  In the middle, is "Sophia Nimb".  Her husband was the sherriff, and he had travelled a bit, and brought back an English wife.  The rest of the family thought they were 'uppidity'.  When I saw that I thought, if I ever needed an alias that my family would recognize, but no one else would, this is it.  So, later I started to use it on the computer.  Also, any snail mail addresses to "Sophia Nimb" is known to be bogus.

When I was pregnant, before we knew if Bacon was a boy or a girl, I was watching one of those baby shows on TV. The pregnant mom turns to her toddler daughter and asks, "What should we name the baby if it's a boy?"

Toddler says, "Bacon!"

It stuck. She's a girl, and I'm Baconsmom just about everywhere I go on the 'Net.

Neko is the name of one of my beloved cats (actually means cat in Japanese); and I shouldn't have to explain the love part now that you know what Neko means.

Incidentally, our other cat's name is Matchka which means cat in slavic....or russian....crap now I can't remember it, but I think it's in slavic.

So we have two cats, and they're both named cat.

:)
