user name is my initials and state of residence all run together

custom id are my middle and last initials, reversed and spelled out.  it sounded fairly cool, and i obviously have little or no imagination.  plus it's easy to remember  ::)

So we have two cats, and they're both named cat.

:)

Ha! DS1's first and middle names are both versions of the name John (which I did not know when I chose the names), though enither are actually JOHN. Pretty funny though. To tease him we occasionally call him John-John.

FWIW, his name means "gift from god" "god's gift". I didn't know that when I named him either, but I think it speaks volumes :)

My husband gave it to me...jeanius.  I agree...haha.
I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

I became LadyJane way back when I was still in diapers, and my mother called me that.(Yes, I am a Jane) When I got online in 1986, I chose LadyJane as my nickname for obvious reasons.  At the time, I wanted to convey that I was a LADY, not just another woman.  It carried through until now. However, there are lots of other LadyJanes out there, and I was unwilling to change to another name.  If I used my date of birth, then everyone would know what a doddering old lady I was.  If I put LadyJaneMD, then too many folks assumed I was a doctor.  So, LadyJaneinMD it is.
I'm not a doctor.  I don't even play doctor.

Years ago, I was an avid soap opera fan.  When I first logged onto my first chat site, it was a DOOL website.  I decided to marry myself off to my fave daytime character.   Those who know who Bart on Days of our Lives will be laughing by now.  I picked my name based on a bumbling (but cute) hitman.  Bart was played by the very talented Steve Blackwood.  It's so anonymous, that I've kept it for years.  Mr. Bart's actual first name isn't Bart, just for the record.

I was posting something else when I thought of this thread (why does this always happen to me?).
Sooo...how did you come up with your nickname?

Hey, that was my thread on the other software!! You stole my thread!  ;) But it always bears coming back to... I enjoy reading how people got their Net names. When we all get unplugged from the Matrix we'll be really cool!  ;D

I've had this nickname (T'Mar) since 1983. It was in 1983 that I *really* became obsessed with Star Trek. We only saw Trek for the first time in 1979 (keep in mind, we only got TV here in 1976!), and the SABC showed 13 eps, then 13 more... and it was only by the time we got to 1983 and the 3rd set of eps that I had a video machine and could tape them! So, naturally, I became obsessed (and I mean obsessed - I watched this ep daily for an entire year) with "Amok Time" and noticed that (at that time) all Vulcan female names started with 'T'. So I just took the first three letters of my actual name (Marina) and put a T and apostrophe in front... and there you go!

I ended up using T'Mar for my email address, etc., and have never been without it. It's easy to remember (only four letters) and quite unique online, at least I think so. Some people tend to think it's a Narn name (from Babylon 5) or has something to do with Dragonriders of Pern (which I've never read, so I don't know what exactly).

The numbers (4537) are the callsigns of Doyle (Agent 45) and Bodie (Agent 37) from the late '70s British TV series "The Professionals". They're also easy to remember, and it's not possible to mistake them for a birthdate! On Yahoo or somewhere I was T'Marmybirthyear but it was so obviously a birthdate that I changed it (not that I care if people know how old I am; I don't).

The avatar pic is me in 1971, BTW. :D

My nickname comes from the song "Love" by Smashing Pumpkins

I'm a big SP/Billy Corgan fan and it's one of my favorite songs.

Mine's a play on words (I was Chattmomma, for my little town and the fact that I'm a mom but I thought that was kinda boring), it's also part of my email address.
Part of it comes from being a car nut's wife. My husband is a Firebird nut and he hates Mustangs. He and his buddies make comments about being "antivenom" for Mustang Cobras (I'm looking into having him institutionalized, I call his car Christine with good reason) and I made the comment that I could be Auntie Venom. Of course he loved it and it stuck...
It fits me well though...I've been known to be a bit vitupertative at times....
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

T'Mar-  In Dragonriders of Pern, all the Dragonriders (except some of the queen dragon riders) have their names "contracted" where a vowel drops out, and becomes an apostrophe.  Two of the main characters (brothers) are named F'lar and F'nor (Their father is named F'lon)

As for my name, well, my middle name is Rose, and I love roses, and Rose is really common, so it became RoseRose.  I use it, or a variation on it, basically everywhere.  For example, on LiveJournal, I'm RoseRose16, because I was 16 when I joined LiveJournal, and RoseRose was already taken.

Actually, the circumstances requiring a new nickname were kind of scary. I tend to use one nickname for everything, so I had this really cute variant of my real name as my standard nickname. One night, on AIM, I received a random IM from a guy wanting to talk. I ignored him and he kept bugging me. Finally, I asked him to leave me alone and he tells me that the last person who told him that, he tracked down and raped. He told me that he had linked to my LiveJournal and was reading about me. While I didn't post enough information for him to figure out who I was, he could narrow it down to my campus and department pretty fast.

While I was pretty sure it was a sick joke, I wasn't taking any chances. I closed the AIM account, blog, etc. However, my friends and I used them to keep in touch, so I had to come up with something new really quickly. I figured... well, I'm a chemist. "Bad" can either mean fabulous or just plain bad. In my work, I've had moments of utter brilliance and utter stupidity, so I figured "thebadchemist" kind of sums me up pretty well. Nowadays, I just worry that I might post a story on here and someone I know might recognize it!

T'Mar - I think that you'd like Pern - the dragonriders names are shortened when they Impress a dragon - since yelling long names in formation at high altitudes while battling Thread takes too long............

As a sci-fi reader since before you were born (sometime in the late 1960s) - if you like Star Trek - there are a number of other "worlds" I can recommend!
