I'd be tempted to round up some friends  and some sheep, cattle, and donkeys and create a LIVE nativity scene complete with carols on a loudspeaker on my front lawn....

Wow that brings back memories.  I grew up in a fairly nice, HOA controlled neighborhood.  Imagine my suprise to pass the local pastor's son jogging down the street leading a camel, lol.  Their church did do a live nativity and for two weeks the baby camel lived in their backyard and had a lovely view of the 7th hole of the golf course.  Needless to say I wasn't the only one to do a double take.

they had this on roseanne once. and roseanne's family went out and did the garishiest, tackiest, neon lights blaring, christmas decorations you could ever imagine....

My DH would have had a similar reaction, as he LOVES to decorate the house in thousands of light bulbs, etc.  Had he gotten such a letter, you can bet your bottom dollar he would have reacted by amping it up big time this year!!

Giantkillersmon, I can just imagine the shock of seeing a camel.  Inearly drove off a curvy coutry road and into a river one day when I was home visiting from college.  It seems that while I was gone the people just down the way had started an emu farm.  Kinda shocking to come around the curve and see these huge birds.

Oh yes, the famous Alvin creche. I can't remember now which chipmunk was Jesus. (Chipmunks all look alike to me.)  It was hilarious. The whole crazy yard was decked with every conceivable decoration.

Has anyone else ever noticed how often you'll drive by some hovel, I mean shanty that is barely standing, and it is massively decorated? I always want to ask those folks why they don't spend some of that electric bill on you know, paint or something. But that, of course, would be terribly rude.

We have BOTH freedom of expression AND the establishment clause! This is not france, people. (unless you are in france, of course. But I'm assuming you're in the US - please correct me if I'm wrong.) We don't make people practice or celebrate their religion in dark closets.

Well I would ignore it since its an anonymous note which precludes my being able to have any sort of dialog with them on the subject.  To me if you are too chicken to sign your name it's as if you don't exist and I am not going to concern myself in the least with your wishes.

I would continute to display whatever Christmas items in my yard that I wanted.  The only exception to this is where certain neighbors have THE Christmas display in town and everyone drives by to gawk, slowing traffic to a crawl along the entire street. I think that is a situation is which neighbors are proper in asking that displays be toned down.

The entitlement and gall are simply boggling!

I am with the posters that are wondering if someone is trying to stir up trouble for the new people that are "different". The whole note thing is childish.

I think the people of Billings, Montana did in 1993, when skinheads tried to spread hatred, was great. Putting menorahs in their windows, after a child's bedroom was attacked took courage.
