Birth Announcements

mrsbrandt:
How soon should one send out birth announcements?  When is too late to receive an announcement?

I ask because I'm starting to think about birth announcement for the little one due in April.  I was thinking about starting a "project" so I could pre-order them online and am wondering about which shipping option would be the best to go with.  If anyone has any good website/ideas for birth announcements feel free to let me know about that as well.  Thanks.

NYGirl100:
I'm due in April, too!  Congratulations!  This is a good question - I was wondering about that, too.

I would say with the month of delivery os reasonable. Unless you are having someone besides you or the father filling out/assembling and mailing the announcements, the same day, and the same week just won't work. Depending on how many kids you already have, their ages, the ease of delivery, and how many people stop by to see you and the baby, the first two weeks are tough. I would shoot for as early as I am COMFPRTABLY able in the first month. If it is closer to a week or two, great, but definately before the wee one is over a month.
Now, if you do have someone who isn't going to be resting, bonding with the baby, taking care of other children, taking care of you, or sleeping every second a chance presents itself who can fill out and mail announcements, then withen the first week.

Congrat NYGIRL what day in April?  I'm the 24th.  I was just wondering what is standard procedure for these birth announcements.  I'm thinking about getting the photo announcements (they're really cute) but it'll take 2-3 days to process the order and then depending on how much I'm willing to shell out for shipping (6.99 for reg. mail 6-8 business days, 14.99 for UPS ground 3-4 business days, 23.99 for next day air 1 business day).  I guess I should have them shipped ground and then they'll get to me within about a week.  And then I should plan on sending them out that very next week.

Who knew baby announcements would get so expensive, this whole bit after buying stamps and everything is going to cost me about $50.00 - which actually isn't all that unreasonable since I am buying $50 announcements.  Nevermind I guess.  It isn't nearly as bad as I thought.

bopper:
I would pick out what announcements you would like to get and order them after the baby comes.
Also, I would make address labels (they make nice clear ones) so that you are ready to have DH assemble the announcements in a flash.
