For cat owners, SIFTING PAN!
« on: January 26, 2007, 04:52:31 PM »
OK, several months ago, Jellybean and I got an automatic cat pan...it was not as effective as we would have liked and, well, it broke because Liberty is a "digger" and must go on the plastic, so things "stick"

I was at our Big Box pet store getting some supplies and I was looking at the cat boxes and saw a "Litter sifter".  It is a cat box with 2 "regular" pan and one "sifting" pan.  You put the sifting pan into a regular pan, and pour your clumping litter over it, then when you go to clean, just lift out the "sifting pan" and dump!!!  It is SO easy and has cut my litter cleaning time to seconds a day instead of hours playing "find the clumps".

When you finish, you put the sifting pan into the empty "regular" pan, and dump the litter into that, placing the now empty pan under the other 2.

We are getting more of these, and I saw some on line for $10.00, they were different from mine, which was a bit more, but man, they are a heaven send to me!

Just wanted to share, thought you might be interested!  (My old roomate had something similar years ago, but I have not been able to find anything like this for a while)

My friend made his own "sifting pan"

he took 3 regular cat pans and a large drill and went to work on them.

drilled the holes off set so that if you put one pan one way and the others turned around it was a solid bottom.  Lift top pan and dump turn around and put under the other two, next day same thing. No dumping of litter from one tray to another.

Of course AFTER he had the silly thing for about two years - someone else marketed them.

go figure.

That was what my ex-roomie had, 3 pans, and when all the pans were together it was a "solid" botton, that was what I was looking for when I found this one.  I would prefer one like that, but this one is great as well!

We had the automatic litterboxes for years and the first one worked great, but when we replaced it they'd changed to a lousy manufacturer and we went through FIVE in one year before giving up on them. Sad, since our oldest and most neurotic kitty just loved triggering HIS litterbox so he could watch it do its thing. He could hear it trigger from anywhere in the house and would come running.

What we've just started using with the old fashioned, scoop-it-yourself boxes is the LitterLocker. It's like one of those things you store dirty disposable diapers in so you don't have to smell them. The refills are expensive, but with a litterbox in the bedroom it's great.

I looked at one of them (the litterlocker) the other day and thought that you could probably buy a diaper genie (the brand name) at a garage sale somewhere and use it instead.

Wonder how the refills cost compartive between the two.

I've been meaning to price them online but haven't gotten around to it. I blame this site.  :D

I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.
