Family presents were exchanged on Christmas eve and Santa's presents were there when we woke up. The big ones always came from Santa.

I remember my sister telling me that she was jealous that Santa got all the credit for Christmas morning, so she always gave them their favorite gift on Christmas Eve, and the rest of it was from Santa.

We got wrapped presents from grandparents and other family members except Mom and Dad. Santa brought all those and they were always unwrapped and displayed.  Santa also did the stockings.  That's when we were very small.

After we knew about Santa, we got wrapped presents from Mom and Dad, too, and one or two wrapped presents "From Santa."  Santa still did the stockings, though.

My kids are grown now, but their stockings are still done by Santa after they're asleep.

I got some presents from Mom on Christmas Eve, mostly boring stuff like clothes.  All the fun stuff came from Santa on Christmas morning, wrapped.

Mom and Dad, Santa, Grandparents, certain aunts/uncles/cousins.
I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

Presents from Mom and Dad were wrapped, and went under the tree before Christmas.  Presents from Santa were unwrapped, and appeared on the couch/chair with our (filled) stockings on Christmas morning.

We didn't have a fireplace, so my sister and I would each choose a piece of living room furniture to drape our stockings over.  I remember figuring out fairly early that choosing a bigger piece of furniture didn't mean that Santa was going to bring me more presents, but that it looked like more if the gifts were crammed into the smaller chair, rather than spread out on the couch.  My sister hadn't realized that at that point-- probably saved us a lot of fights over who got what piece of furniture that year...

Santa brings the big wahoo at our house and its left unwrapped under the tree.  The rest are from mom and dad.  I love seeing my kids faces light up on christmas morning when they get the first glimpse of that gift.

I had to laugh when one of the posters mentioned her sister said she got jealous that Santa gets the credit.  I'm looking forward to seeing my kids playing with the new Wii I've had hidden for four months to ensure their christmas delight.  It kinda chaps my hide that the jolly fat man will get the credit!   ;D

Oh well, I think my oldest has caught on so I'm sure dh and I will be getting some extra big hugs from him, lol.

That's so adorable! :)  Santa presents never showed up under the tree for us either.  They'd be set out in two piles, usually stacked on either side of the fireplace. (Depending on the setup of the house we were living in at the time.)  Nowadays, my brother's and my gifts will still be set out in two piles, but then we'll take a few more minutes to distribute the gifts under the tree (from the two of us to each other and our parents, and our parents' gifts to each other) before settling down to open everything.  Stockings are hung by the chimney with care, of course, and I pass them out to open after we've opened everything else.

Mine were from my parents. All Santa did was stocking presents.

Same here.

It was the same for my family.

The presents were from parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.  Santa filled the stockings.

However, there was always a wrapped present under the tree from Santa.  That was usually a toilet paper tube filled with underwear that had a dollar bill tape to each pair.
(Okay, now that I've written it out, that sounds really weird)
It was really from my Grandma.

When she was 90, she asked for some warm undershirts for Christmas.  She laughed a huge belly-laugh when she found the taped on dollar bills.

Sigh;  I miss her.

Other: When I was little, Santa and Mom&Dad. Then as we got older, Santa branched out. Suddenly, we got presents from his wife, from the elves, from the reindeer.

Then it was strange relatives we'd only heard of through humorous stories. Then fictional characters.

Pretty soon, we were getting presents from each others' anthropomorphised cars, our pets, favorite childhood toys, and The Marlboro Man.

Now that we're all adults, it's a competition to see who can come up with the weirdest sender, or the best tie-in to the actual gift. I got Asimov's Guide to Shakespeare from "Toast" one year - because we'd taken a pic of Bacon with some bread and captioned it, "Alas! Poor Toast, I knew him well!"

That's pretty much the way it worked in our house. Y'know, Santa sure cusses a lot out in the garage putting together bikes (that was Dad, with my cousin's bike).

I actually can't fully remember how our presents worked.  I know that presents from my grandparents were in a combination of "Grandmom & Grandpop" and "Santa", but I'm not sure if mom and dad's gifts were from them only or some from Santa too.  I want to say just from mom and dad, although maybe the bigger gifts when we were really little were from Santa.  I think all of us kids figured out the deal pretty early on, and mom and dad were very matter of fact about it when we did.

When I was little, my sisters and I got one or two presents from Mom and Dad, and the rest was from Santa.

When we started the Santa thing with my daughter, the big present was from us, Mommy and Daddy, and Santa brought a lot of less exciting but still fun things. I refused to give him the credit for the good stuff  ;D

In our family, most of the presents are from Mom and Dad, and Santa brings one or two nice presents.  They're all wrapped and show up under the tree.  Santa also does stockings, although those tend to be minor, entertaining things (like the year we all got some sort of musical instrument; my dad got a harmonica, DH got a kazoo, and I got a single maraca.  What noise!).

In my house, santa always filled the stockings, but mum and dad did the big gifts under the tree. It worked well for us, because there wasn't so much dissapointment when we discovered the "truth", as we knew we would still be getting all our big presents as normal. I decided to carry on this with my own children, and it feels nice knowing they realise that mummy and daddy brought them that most sought after toy, and they seem to think that santa tells us what they want after they have told him lol :)
