I seriously have foot in mouth disease.
Yes, seriously.
So what does one do to cope with such an ailment? I think before I speak (usually), but there sometimes happen to be someone nearby who possibly becomes offended by what I say.
So the backstory:
I have a group of friends, and we are basically always joking around - they're my silly group of friends... and although I have not known them for a considerably long time, we always talk about the strangest things and go off on the weirdest tangents.
These tangents get me into trouble. Because I suffer from verbal diarrhea and simply cannot shut my mouthpiece.
To make a long story short, one of the girls (for reasons I cannot remember) brought up how she mistook a lady for a man not long ago. I told her that I feel her pain because I did it before with a woman who had considerable amount of facial hair, and trust me, its quite possibly one of the most embarrassing situations *ever* for both parties involved. Another older member of the group mentioned that we will all get facial hair with age (to which we all had a little laugh about). I tried to then bring a bit of seriousness into the conversation by mentioning a television show that I recently saw where a doctor EVEN had difficulty with this sort of problem.
The little "party" died down a while later, and as we walked away to go to our rooms, I noticed that a particular young boy who seems to have health problems related to this was there the whole time. I asked my friend about it and she confirmed that he heard the whole thing, saying that she wished we "would have just ENDED the conversation".
I'm nearly in tears now. I feel terrible that I might have offended the kid, and quite possibly disgusted these friends. What should I do? Apologise? Or just let it go and hope that they have forgotten it all (and I'm just blowing this out of proportion). I pride myself on my normally half-decent manners, but yet I keep doing stupid things like this.
What should I do?
