Frequency of retrieving email

I sit at a computer for most of the day at work, and my work and personal emails are open in my desktop at all times.  When I get home, I have my laptop on most always and my email is always open on my desktop.  Email is my main form of communication. 

Work email should, at minimum, be checked first thing in the morning and toward the end of the day.  If not, it would be the same as not answering the phone and not returning messages.  Of course, this only applies to workplaces where email has been established as an important method of communication.

I never get any email I want to read, I maybe check every few days. I actually had someone--a professor--chatise me for it. When we first started working together a year ago, I told her NOT to communicate with me by email because my internet access was, at the time, unreliable (dial up that only worked half the time). But it's inconvenient for her to work outside of her comfort range, so she keeps emailing even whe I don't respond.

When my internet is functioning, I check mine about every other day.   Only 4 people have my e-mail address and I like it that way.

Since we moved to this town we have not had a reliable internet provider, its been very frustrating.  I'm just going to keep my contact list small until we are able to return to the civilized world which has access to internet, and a reliable e-mail account.

I work out of my home so the email is up from 10am-7pm....I just turn it off after that because quite honestly, there are no ebay emergencies after 7pm   You would be suprised how many people think that they may indeed die if thier email is not responded to 12 seconds after they send it AT 4 AM!
