Not sure what this invitation entails
« on: December 10, 2007, 01:39:10 PM »
Please join me in a holiday celebration. You’ve all been working so hard. Lets take some time to let our hair down and enjoy the holidays together.

Thank you for all of your hard work. I look forward to an exciting 08’!

When: date
Where: local Italian grille
Time: time
RSVP to me by Wed 12th.

Hi e-hellions,
I just got this invitation from our big boss today and really don't know what to make of it. I am not trying to cast her into e-hell or anything ... it's just missing some details.

Re SO's invited? What about kids? In the past they all were; but in the past our holiday party was at someone's house.

Are refreshments being provided? Are we meeting for dinner? Drinks? Paying our own way or company petty cash?

I have no idea what to expect from this. I guess someone is going to have to ask her. I just don't want to be the one; she intimidates me because i think she is amazing - i always feel wifty and tongue tied talking to her. Plus, if we are all just getting together for cocktails and paying for our own (which is fine, i guess) i don't want to sound rude or like i am trying to finagle something for free. The company laid off 300 people a few weeks ago - that could easily sound pushy.

I think i am going to have to wait and see if the buzz hits the office about what is actually going on...

I'd ask about the SOs and kids; on the payment front, if you're comfortable doing so, bring cash just in case.

I don't *think* SOs / kids are invited, but I can see where it can be interpreted another way.

If I were you, I'd RSVP 'one' (if you can make it) and see if you can take a look at the menu online and be prepared to pay your share of the bill (and be pleasantly surprised if it's on the company's dime).  If they recently laid off a lot of people, this could very well be a "Dutch treat" sort of thing.

Is there ane way you could shoot he an e-mail to get some clarification? If you have problems with actually speaking to her, an e-mail will let you compose your thoughts a little better. The other thing that you could do is to nominate someone in the office to talk to her on behalf of everyone else.

Those are the two things I would do.

I was starting to think i had imagined posting this. I read the replies at work, didn't have time to answer, and then i couldn't find it because i kept looking in "All in a Day's Work" and wondering what the heck happened.

In any case, i still don't know what the deal is. The "RSVP by" date was today, and i am not going. I just have way too much other stuff to deal with, plus i work until 7 and it starts at 5:30.

Thanks for the responses!
