If you don't like slash, then don't read it....
« on: January 27, 2007, 11:21:53 PM »
I write House/Wilson slash. So sue me.

A review for my House/Wilson story "A Pain That I'm Used To":

This was a great story until you had them kissing. EW! I'm not a lover of slash. Ruined the whole story IMO.--Captain Hank

Interesting. House and Wilson sleeping in the same bed is fine (Chapters 2, 4, and 7), but kissing (Chapter 9) is off limits for the aforementioned Captain Hank. Yeesh.

I could send a PM to this, ahem, person, but I'm not going to. I'll just end up playing right into his hands and start a flame war. That's exactly what he wants. and if I react, the terrorists win. Nope, I'll just leave his little review up for all the world to see.

Read the offending slash *gasp! it's the end of the world!* fic here: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3302503/1/.

I write House/Wilson slash. ... I'll just end up playing right into his hands and start a flame war.

I don't know who those people are (I don't watch TV except for Stargate) but anti-slashers always seem to express their hatred of slash BY READING IT. They deliberately ignore the warnings just so they can email you (us slash writers) and say how "disgusted" they were. I just think, "Get a life" and ignore it.

I dowloaded a file years ago (about Blake's 7 slash - another show I've never seen) that had a very good quote in it, something like, "I've never heard of a slash zine following people about, flapping and screaming, 'Read me, read me'!" People have to seek slash out. Why seek out something you're going to hate? They're idiots.

I do find that, in general, slash is usually very well-written. I think it has to be, because the relationships and situations have to be believable. I love going to various sites and looking for long, well-written slash stories. I have more than two THOUSAND Sentinel slash stories on my hard drive. And 90% of them are excellent.

Some people just need their eyes glued shut.

I'll never understand someone complaining about entertainment that offends them. It's entertainment for FSM's sake! No one makes you watch/read/see/lick it! I don't care for teen melodramas... so I don't watch them. It's that simple.

Why don't they write their own stories?  Then they can make THEIR characters do what THEY want them to! :P

LOL that's laughable. I think people who leave reviews like that are just looking to make themselves feel bigger when they aren't. Or they're bored.

Personally, I love anime slash. Piccolo/Gohan all the way!

Funny thing about House. Every time I see him I want to rub his stubble :P

When I first read this thread, I immediately thought of the woman in your art class.....that hated art.

I'd love to add some profound comment to this discussion, but people like this honestly leave me speechless. Why would anyone waste time reading/watching/listening to something they hate when they aren't being forced to?  ??? Life is too short!

At least the two examples above aren't trying to make anyone else compensate for their apparent lack of free will. It makes me crazy when parents' groups and religious organizations try to get books, films, and television shows banned "to protect their children". Why not just wear a t-shirt that says, "I have no authority in my own home." My mother certainly didn't need national participation and media coverage to tell me no.

Haha, that's what I was thinking about, too!

AMEN to that one! I'll never undestand the need to enforce your morals on everyone. The world is made for adults, not children. I'd probably kill myself if anything I could do/see/read had to be child appropriate.

Out of curiosity, I checked Captain Hank's profile.

Total number of stories to his name--0. And he's been a member since Dec. 2005.

I don't like the idea of slash.  It offends me.

Not slamming anyone here and I do know people love it and write it and others enjoy reading.

It is my stupid, petty little opinion.  I feel like I am old enough to be allowed my own stupid petty prejudice

However, I don't read it and I don't presume to criticize anyone who does write it or read it.

Nor would I presume to judge someone's writing based on the kind of writing they do.

Analogy:
Now some people like to eat snails and some people are grossed out at the very idea.  The people who are grossed out by the very idea of eating snails should not judge the cooking of the same by the people who do enjoy them.

Does that make any sense?
If it doesn't, then more clearly; though I am not an fan of the art I agree with the OP.

(Lord that was a long twisted road to the point.)

I understood you, MerryRaven.

I, for one, don't like fanfic at all. I know many here do, that's cool, but I will always have issues with it. But I certainly wouldn't go to a fanfic site and leave negative comments on the stories. "This would be good except for the fanfic part." That's just silly.

Or as we say down home: "Don't send a vegetarian to judge a bar-b-que cook off."  ;)

I only ever had one complaint about my DS9 stories and it was hilarious! I replied pointing out that the warning preceeding the story was as explicit as the story itself, and received an apology ::)

I don't like the idea of slash.  It offends me.

I thought you didn't like any fanfic? And, you know, that's fine. I have never received email from you telling me what an awful person I am for writing it, so we're good.

What roasts my mealie is when people *pick* a type of fanfic to hate; whether it's slash ("X character is not G*A*Y!! Whine!!!"), RPF (Real Person Fic), het ("John shouldn't be with Teyla! It's obvious Rodney is the love of his life!!! How can the writers be so dense??!!!") etc. All slash is technically not kosher; to hate one particular type because of one's own prejudices just shows how nearsighted a person is.

I find RPF objectionable. I think that writing about existing people doing things they'd never do is just icky and gross. But it would be highly hypocritical of me to tell people this when I just wrote a story in which a character (character, not a real person) switched genders, got married, had a baby and switched back! (Trust me, the story is MUCH better than that makes it sound.)

So I just don't read any Real Person fanfic. And I wish people who hate slash would stay the h3ll away from it, too.

Look my eyes are just holograms
Look your love has run red from my hands
From my hands you know you'll never be
More than a Twist in my Sobriety

I meant to tell you that the above song is one of my favourites ever! My quote from it is found to the left of my posts. I would have liked to have had an entire line ("I don't care about their different thoughts; different thoughts are good for me" but it wouldn't fit!
