As I was heading out the door earlier today, I saw a delivery from Amazon sitting on the porch. Great, I thought, it was supposed to arrive today. I took the time to take it in and toss it in my office before I left.

Got back home and opened the box to make sure everything was in it ...

... and right on top was a video I had requested for Christmas.

You guessed it. I opened one of Chip's deliveries from Amazon.

I 'fessed up. And I only saw that one vid. I know there were others underneath it, so I don't know what else he got me. But I feel like a kid who was caught peeking in the attic for presents.  :-[

Lesson to self: Read the address label before you rip open.

Anyone else done this?

All the time. I think it's inevitable. The worst is when multiple people order from the same catalog. Someone always opens the wrong thing. Of course, just seeing it with the amazon label might have tipped you off.

That's part of the problem. We're both ordering off each other's Amazon wish lists.

I just tracked my Amazon package. It's on the truck for delivery today. So I give myself a little bit of a pass for thinking it was mine. :P

we already did that this year.

I was browsing around, and went "Oooh, this is NOT on Mr. Dawb's amazon list, but I KNOW he wants it", and bought it.
Then we had Christmas (for the military family, temporarily home) and...got that item.  The Mr. was giving his family gift ideas for what I would like and said "oooh, this isn't on Dawb's amazon list, but I KNOW she wants it".

We both thought we were safe, going "off list"

Nope :-)
(it's already been exchanged)

HAHA, on DH's and I's 1st Valentines when we were dating, I had bought him a stuffed parrot that looked like his and a big pair of chocolate lips.

We were sitting in the living room. My mom came in and we started talking about stuffed animals and how DH wasn't a fan of random stuffed animals with no meaning. My mom, PULLS the parrot out of his gift bag and said "I thought it was cute!" (she didn't know DH had a parrot)
That's when I said, "Mom, he hasn't opened that yet." ::)
She felt so bad, she gave us money to go to the movies AND extended my curfew! DH loved the parrot, and it still sits on his desk!

Dawbs, something similar happened to us a couple of years ago.  The original Star Wars Trilogy had come out in a new DVD box set right before our anniversary and I was totally psyched that I finally had a good gift idea.  I even ordered it from a weird web site, Sears.com, because they had a special coupon.  Not Amazon, not Best Buy, but Sears.

The day that it arrived, there were two boxes from Sears.  Thinking it must have been a shipping error, I opened both of them.  (But carefully, just in case.)  Dh had not only bought the exact same set for me, but on the same day from the same site.  I put it back together and put it in his mail pile.

When he got home, I had the one I bought hidden behind my back.  He handed me the box and said, "Well, you've already kind of seen it so you should open it now."  I said, "No, you open yours!"  He looked at the two identical boxes and said, "But mine is Star Wars."  "So is this one!"  "But I got a special discount at Sears.com."  "So did I!"  I call it our "Geeky Gift of the Magi".

One year when I was a teenager my mom and I used my dad's car (better gas mileage) to do some shopping.  We opened the trunk to put our packages in and saw Dad's present to Mom in a huge box that was clearly marked to indicate what was inside.  Mom quickly slammed the trunk and swore me to secrecy!

A few days later, dad asked me to go sneak Mom's present out of his trunk and wrap it for him.  It was so fun!  I felt like a double-agent! ;D

Since I'm home during the day, I'm the one who receives all the packages.  Around Christmas and my birthday, it's not uncommon for DH to tell me "there's a package coming from ______________ (usually Amazon.com).  Don't open it!"

When it gets really interesting is when he orders something from a smaller, online retailer, and because he's not sure how much advertising they do on their packaging, I get instructions not only to not open it, but to avoid looking at it as much as possible.

My Amazon order came this afternoon, along with another one for Chip. At least I opened the right box this time (though I was tempted to open the other one and see what else he got me!  >:D)
