I have heard it called a "gift grab" or "gift snatch"

I just participated in this kind of activity for the first time at an organization I just joined. They called it a Dirty Santa exchange. I didn't know what a Dirty Santa exchange was until the rules were explained. To me, Dirty Santa brings about the wrong connotations. (After all, I had just met these people, and not at all comfortable exchanging "dirty" gifts with them! ;)) I preferred  to call it a Secret Santa exchange, but that's a different kind of game, I believe.

Wikipedia lists common names as: White Elephant, Yankee Swap, Red Sox Swap (ha ha), Thieving Secret Santa, Dirty Santa, or Thieving Elves. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_elephant_gift_exchange

I've only ever heard it called a White Elephant. Dirty Santa just conjures up bad mental images!

I think I like Round Robin best. I've heard the term, just not applied to this situation. "Gift Swap" isn't very definitive, "White Elephant" connates tackiness, and "Yankee Swapmeet" is harmless enough, but I find a tad colloquial.
