PC Christmas at Church
« on: December 14, 2007, 10:55:08 PM »
It's Christmas Carols night at Church tonight. And yet again they are going to sing all of the carols in a PC way.

So:
God Bless ye Merry Peoples All

Silent night, holy night,
All is calm, all is bright
Round Mary, Joseph and child. (can't say Virgin don't you know)

And in Hark the Herald Angels sing:
Offspring of the Blessed One (rather than Virgin's womb)
Pleased as man with us to dwell; (was "man to dwell")
Born that we no more may die, (rather than "man no more may die")

And this is just a small taste of it
Will I go to ehell if I just sing the normal versions?

if this is actually happening at a church this is completely insane PC gone wild.

if anyone is going to be offended by reference to the holy virgin why the heck are they at CHURCH?!  :-\

death is a part of life, jesus died...are they going to say he passed on, went to that big church in the sky, took a dirt nap, etc.?

i'm sorry but switching about religious hymns to make them PC is utterly stupid in my book...and i'm agnostic!

How is "virgin" not PC? Wasn't that kind of the whole point of the story?

Nope, not kidding at all. Yes this is at a church.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who finds it ridiculous.

Oh really, I'll have to let them know so that they can leave him out next year. LOL

I'd sing 'em as I knew 'em.

There is no way I'm singing "God Rest Ye, Merry Peoples All".

About the only PC thing we ever did was sing "Good Christian Friends, Rejoice" instead of good Christian men.

And since when did the Virgin become "The Blessed Female of Hitherto Empty Womb"?

Who exactly is offended by that anyway?
I am of the mind that the PC stuff is not being driven by the supposedly offended group.
For instance, I have never met a Jewish person that was offended by Christmas.
I have actually received Christmas cards from Jewish people wishing that I enjoy the Holiday.
So who is it that thinks all women will be offended by "God rest ye Merry Gentlemen?"

I'll admit, I don't like overly religious carols in the general public, but in CHURCH?  ???

That's where they belong!

She Who Didn't Know Joseph...Er...Biblically.

I'm just waiting now for them to rewrite the creeds, which quite obviously mention the Virgin.

They're not PCing the religion out of them, just the virginity and alleged sexism.  ;D

I bet someone somewhere has already rewritten the creeds.

I bet someone somewhere has already rewritten the creeds.

I had a vision of the Apostles Creed reading "...He descended into Heck...", which reminded me of the Dilbert comic strip and Phil, the Prince of Insufficient Light, who darns you to Heck.
