OP here---For all those who asked, yes, it has cleared. I know of certain companies that are allowed to put holds (like gas stations), but always to an amount that usually ends in a 5 or 0, not a 2, that I've seen, at least. I remember having to explain it to a friend who didn't have an extra money on her debit. In this case, it was either my mistake (although not likely) or what y'all are saying (a little extra money for the person running the card). I'm going to be contacting my friend who recommended the place either way. I'm going to inform him what happened and let him do what he wants with the information. I'm still debating what I should do next to handle the resturant (after all, the credit union's closed today).
I was thinking that since my friend who paid with cash ordered the most expensive meal and also got a coffee, whereas I got water, maybe he had short changed them. And once they realized it, they charged me extra to make up the difference.
BTW, it was the restaurant owner who ran the register for us, not the waistress. I remembered this later and now I'm thinking that if it was him, it seems pointless to call and complain, unless I do it in a "I'm onto you" way, which I can't see myself doing.
