Now I know where she got it from
« on: January 31, 2007, 03:16:37 AM »
I teach in a primary school.  Last year's grade 7's were the Class from Hell and Shannon was one of the worst.  She was dumb as a shovel of rocks, mouthy, insolent, skanky and with a particular talent for saying breathtakingly rude and entitled things.  Think Paris Hilton without the looks.  She has now moved onto high school and we are all luxuriating in her absence.

Anyway, Shannon's little siblings are still here.  Class lists went up yesterday and teaching started today.  Shannon's mum took some exception (no-one is real clear what) to the class Siblings had been assigned to.

Yesterday was spent shouting at the Admin assistants that she'd written a letter about what class she wanted Siblings to go into, why weren't they in that class, everyone was mean to her and everyone else got what they wanted so it must be that the school was picking on her.  Today she advanced to saying the same thing to the principal, at much greater volume and with far more obscenity.  Because if you say if loud enough, often enough and swear enough, it must be true!

Anyone want to bet where Shannon got her attitude from?  This woman is now threatening to withdraw Siblings and enrol them in another school if we don't give her what she wants.

Oh please, oh please, oh please...
Changing the world...one Thank You note at a time.

<snort> Not as much of a threat as she thinks it is, is it?

If I was the principal, I'd be soooo tempted to shed a few crocodile tears as I escorted her and her little Paris-wannabees out the door.
You are only young once. After that you have to think up some other excuse.

Wow....some people....
You can bet those younger siblings are going to be even worse. They've seen it from Mom and from Shannon.
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

There was more than once that mom had to go in to fix schedules at our HS because one of us needed Latin, or a higher level class, or an early schedule to leave for work.
But...she was respectful and we were good students and the school was very large and not all on computers yet.
She did not rant and fuss, or even write letters!
All 3 of us graduated with the classes we wanted/needed just fine.
Some parents are so used to accepting the system that they never ask questions.
Others immediately jump to emtitlement and I will SUE! if you do not bow to my wishes mentality.
The middle road seems the best, but sadly, is becoming the least travelled.
Fear is temporary...Regret is forever.

Our school had a discretionary system - that is, if parents asked for their children to have a particular teacher, the final assignment would be based on whether the parents were jerks and kids were little snots or not :-)  I was the oldest of three, so I always got teachers assigned randomly, and somehow my sister and brother always got the "good" teacher for each year after my parents had seen me deal with them!

Junior and senior high had seven periods over the course of the day, and everyone had to turn in class requests the year before and the main computer crunched them all and spit out "optimal" schedules that would work for as many people as possible.  Few students knew about this, but the principal picked out six or seven students' schedules to prime the computer - those six or seven always got every top choice class they asked for.  I learned quickly that a) being polite to all the staff, especially the principal, and b) taking lots of courses that were only offered for one period a day got me included in the priming group every year :-)
