When I was playing D&D a lot, there was one guy that just gave me (and the other women) the "creeps" but since we gamed in a public place we couldn't boot him out.

The last straw came when he draped his arm over my shoulder when we were talking and tried to feel my boobs.

Cue elbow to the belly - I then turned on him and told him that if he EVER touched me that way again that his belly would not be the only thing that would be hurting.

And then one of the other guys (who out weighed and out muscled him by at least twice, 54 inch chest worth of muscle) looked him dead in the eyes and told him that "when she gets done with you it is my turn"

He had walked in on my little "conversation" with the skinny creep.  Who I might add was talking about his live in girlfriend as he was trying to touch me.

MineralDiva - good for you, being touched without your permission is the crudest thing ever.

She was smacked on the butt by a total stranger/passer-by?  What IS it with some people?  Good for her for reacting the way she did!

There's nothing wrong with admiring a handsome man or a beautiful woman.  But to actually put one's hands on them, when they're not a spouse or couple?  Or to make lewd comments within earshot of the person, and not stop when asked?  In my opinion, all bets are off, at that point!

Diva,

I think that the people who behave this way are motivated by the desire to have power over the other person or to humiliate that person.  Since it is often men who do this to women, they are probably acting out of a hatred toward women.

Although this thread has been entertaining because it is always fun to read about jerks getting their just desserts, I would like to add a note of caution.  While it is perfectly acceptable to slap someone in a busy store where help is available if the assailant tries to escalate, one should be a little more careful if one is alone and help may not be available.

When I passed my green belt test, the master congratulated me and my fellow students on reaching the average level of a typical street fighter. I think that there may be some truth to this statement.  While I do believe that all people have a right to defend themselves, they may want to consider the possible risks of hitting another person before they act.  They may also want to consider avoiding actions (such as slapping), which will only antagonize the other person without causing damage.

Yes it certainly is!  But as soon as they think "they" have permission, and do it, that gives ME permission to do the same!

It's been soooo long since I've encountered such crass behavior, that I'm still seething that it happened at all!

I agree.  Which is why in my particular situation, I chose to deflect with a little humor, yet make my point clear.

It absolutely depends on the situation.  You have to assess your safety risks too...and quickly...before acting.

In my case I think that the elbow to the belly was a reflex thing.  I am not a touchy -feely kind of girl and he just kind of shocked me.  I know some girls that ould ave let him go and giggled about it - EEWWWW

Also I did out weigh him by a bit (one of those guys that are about 5ft 5inches and about 120 pounds, I am 5ft 7inches and about 200 pounds. I can also dead lift around a 120 pounds)  And there was several guys coming and going past us that were gentlemen that WOULD have taken him out and he knew it.

There are bits of a person that you do not touch without being invited to.

Would love to know the etymology of "spauldings."  I got the meaning right away, but I'm intrigued.

As Gigi said, it's a company that manufactures sports, uh, spherical objects. Mr. Spaulding had something to do with the creation of basketball, as the rules of the game used to be referred to as "those Spaulding rules."

I have used it as a euphemism for — well, you know, for some years now.

Thanks for the etymology, y'all.  I'm not at all an athlete (nor am I an athletic supp---erhhh, sportsfan) so I never would have worked that one out.

From now on "Spauldings" are in my lexicon.  :)

I waitressed at a restaurant with a rather rambunctious bar crowd. On my first training shift, my manager let me know that I was to carry around a cup of grapejuice on my tray any time I was working after 11pm. I asked why, she assured me that when the time was right it would come to me.
About three weeks later, it's one in the morning, the club across the street has been closed for about an hour, and I have Mr Grabbyhands at one of my tables. The first time I felt a hand on my butt, I ignored it, the second time I asked him not to again, the third time, when is was a smack, followed by a squeaze, I turned around, yelled at him, and flung the grapejuice at him. When I went in back to let the manager know to eject the table, the assistant manager was already over. Asst. Mgr. said as soon as he sees a table of men, covored in grape juice, he knows to have them leave.

They knew that the night crowd was rowdy, thay also knew that most of them would NOT be drinking grape juice, so it worked well.  In my year in ther employ I had five grape juicers, and three men I actually had to slap. One called the police, managemtn handed the cops a list of patrons whho were willing to testify that it was self defense, charges were never brought.  I also had to juice a woman once, which shocked all of us. She came in two days later and apologized, stating she had been drunk, shoudl have gone home, and made an unwise choice.

All in all it was a fabulous place to work, but the bad seeeds stick out.
