I have allergies and a deviated septum. I wake up in the morning totally plugged. Every morning. The day begins with a reverberating "Wonk!" as my father's days began before me, and as my siblings' days begin. The "wonk" is answer by my parrot, mocking me, and my DH laughing. But it allows me to actually use that otherwise decorative and useless thing in the middle of my face for a while.
Slight o/t and kind of disgusting, but have you ever tried using saline, a nasal aspirator, and flushed your sinuses? It seems to help some people clear things out?
I use a saline spray several times each day. As for the actual sinus flushing, I tried that but couldn't escape the feeling that I was drowning. It as horrible and completely ruined my day every time I tried it, so I finally gave up.
I know you didn't mention the regular OTC decongestant sprays, but others might. I know better than to use them because of the rebound effect that's far worse than what you're trying to fix. Prescription allergy sprays (Flonase and whatnot) don't work so well for me, either.
It's not like these are allergies you can easily escape. If you're allergic to dogs you just don't keep a dog, right? I'm allergic to dust, mold and perfume. That's it. On my old allergist's 1-4 severity scale I'm a 3 on each of those, and dust and mold are everywhere. I do my best to avoid the perfume, and it means giving up many activities I'd otherwise enjoy--like movies at theatres--but sometimes you just have to be somewhere and can't leave just because someone mistook their atomizer for the showerhead.
