After Hours Holiday Party Attire
« on: December 07, 2006, 08:47:11 PM »
Aside from his full-time job at a hospital, my husband works at a doctors' office one day a week. The doctors are hosting a holiday dinner for the office employees & technicians this Saturday night at what is described as a "classic tablelcloth restaurant" and, as the website claims, the restaurant "accords its guests with an upscale ambience and impeccable service, while maintaining affordable prices." I asked my DH what the office requested for attire, and he said "festive".

 ???

Now, I assume that jeans and a light-up Rudolph/Santa sweater would not be appropriate... ;) But does that mean I should wear a black cocktail dress or something more business-like (skirt or slacks with a blazer)? My DH will probably wear slacks and a collared shirt with a black sweater over it.

I'm a stay-at-home mom, so I really don't know what I should wear as the spouse of an employee. I have dressy clothes, though, so I don't feel like I should go out and buy something just for this...however, I also don't want to show up over- or under-dressed!

Advice, anyone? Thanks!

I would think black slacks or a black skirt and a holiday sweater would be ok.

I have black slacks and a cranberry red sleeveless top that I can wear with a black blazer. Does that sound dressy enough? I don't want to look like I'm going to a business meeting, but my blazer is very feminine and has some "flair" if that makes sense...LOL I would wear my black boots or my red heels with it. And I would be much more comfortable in this outfit than a cocktail dress! I just wanted to make sure it would be appropriate.

Thanks for your advice!

Do you have a Christmasy pin you could wear?

Have fun!

No, but I think I have a bracelet or something. I'll look around. Thanks!

That outfit is perfect.  I'm going to my husband's thing tonight with nice black slacks and a great top.  It's too cold to wear a skirt.  We're not going to a restaurant, but a catered event in someone's home.  You'll be warm, comfortable, and appropriately dressed.

I just got a new outfit to wear to my company's holiday party tonight which is being held at a more upscale restaurant.

I got a red and black dressy sleeveless top and a black fluttery skirt.  I was going to wear black hose and closed toe black heels but I have a pair of red strappy heels that I may wear instead (without the hose).

A friend lent me a wrap to wear, too.
