That's an interesting thought, Dotty.

My college buddy and I frequently talk about how so many of his kids' generation have never seen a black and white movie and seem to think that movies were born in the 70s.  While I think that there was a lot of hypocrisy about sex during the days of the Hayes Office, I definitely appreciate the dialogue that's 99.9% free of profanity and that there isn't any gratuitous bloodshed or other grossness.

Now to decide who gets the copy of The Mark of Zorro (1941)....

UPDATE ON THE MOVIE SITUATION:

At the suggestion of a former military person I contacted a recruiter, but they had no clue and said to contact the support organization.  On AnySoldier there is a list of no-nos, including:

Any matter depicting nude or semi nude persons, pornographic or sexual items,
or non authorized political materials.

This means I did the right thing here.  Of course, one has to wonder whether DVDs of Baywatch would be disqualified because of the bare-chested men.

I did send a copy of Body Heat to another group, but since I get e-mails from the addressee, I will write to her and ask for some guidance on this.

I got an email from one of the women I've sent a couple of packages to (with the canine unit that I mentioned in an earlier post). She was writing from home (UK) where she is back for at least 6 months. She is thrilled to be back home finally, and spend some time with her son.

She said I could still send women's items and dog supplies to the same address because a new unit has taken their place and she knows there are at least 3 women in the new unit.

I've been sending a lot of the "essential" toiletries (soaps, feminine hygiene supplies and the like), plus magazines, books and movies that I thought were more appropriate to just women, and food. Does anyone have any other suggestions for some fun things just for the ladies?

That sounds like a good list of things.  Pedicure items are a good idea, including nail polish.  While female servicepeople are probably not allowed to paint their fingernails, many paint their toenails.

Which reminds me:  In view of the fact that nail polish often protects nails, shouldn't the military allow its people to paint their fingernails with clear polish?

The 4 boxes of toiletries I sent to my regular Army group arrived today.  The sarge said in her e-mail that the women grabbed almost everything, so I will have to separate out the men's and women's stuff better from now on.  The next shipment I send them will be food and snacks, as my nearest supermarket recently had a deal on 6 oz cans of Bumble Bee tuna at 2/$1 and I just found "bouquets" of Tootsie Roll Pops at 59 cents each.  The large box waiting to be assembled will also contain some good "junk food" like Drakes products.

I'm rather peeved that the client meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled.  I was going to drop a bundle in the company store on stuff.

Venus - Clothing regs allow a clear or natural nailpolish (flesh colored).
Dotty - In the MRE's, there is a laxative gum.  Regularity isn't always a good thing.

And for everyone, I know it means a lot to our people overseas (Been on both sides of the pond)  After months of MRE's, those packages come in bathed with golden light and a halo

Thanks for that tip.  I think I will go searching for clear nail polish at lunch time.

The dollar store near work also has non-aerosol shave cream, so I picked up a dozen tubes of that for the men in that group.  I hope that becomes a regular item there if it's any good.

I don't think this group lives on MREs, but they also don't get the "good" junk food.  My next package to them (which will probably be next week) will likely include Drakes Fruit Pies if the price is right.  Apple and cherry pies....  they sound good to me!

Dollar stores are such a boon to military supporters.  This morning I picked up Smartees, Starlight Mints, Fruit Roll-ups, and Fruit Gushers.  Along with the sugar-free drink mix and lemon drops at home this will make a great package for next week.
