Creepy short work story:

it's like an old Motel. There are the two big open rooms upstairs, a storage room downstairs, two offices on the top floor. The bathroom for employees is inbetween the two offices, which are connected by a short hallway. I've walked into one office, intending to go to the bathroom and seen large shadows walk across the doorway of the other office. it is CREEPY to be looking into a very dark room and still see a shadow move across it.

Several times, I've gone into the bathroom and heard what sounds to be an old radio show. no TV or radios are on. You only hear it every now and again.

I posted a creepy story on my weblog in honor of Halloween, and I'll just link to it here if you're interested:

What do you get when you mix a 17 year old who talks to angels, a family fascinated by the end of the world, and someone coming up the steps at midnight when everyone's asleep?

Speaking of haunted dolls, has anyone had the chance to see this little guy in Key West?

http://www.hauntedamericatours.com/hauntedstates/hauntedflorida/hauntedkeywest/

DH and I took a ghost tour down there a few years ago and the tour guide spoke about this doll and we walked by the home he originally occupied.  The guide went on to say that he's moved from one museum to another that's closer to Mallory Square (big tourist spot).  But he's supposed to be in a glass case.  The day after the tour, Dh and I were wandering around the square and saw this creeeeeepy doll peeking out of a window.  The logical side of me wants to say it's just a replica to give the tourists a thrill.  We didn't go into the museum to find out.  In fact, I'm not even sure that building WAS the museum but I didn't confirm it either.

That gave skeptic me nightmares last night. Even though my rational minds says it is probably exagerated, at least 50% made up, etc

I've thought about sharing this before, but I don't like telling people.  I'm a skeptic by nature, but some things are just unexplainable.
My grandparents house is next to a cemetery.  There is a bit of space between the house and the graves (large yard, ravine, and then the bandstand for Memorial Day before you get to graves).  I've never been afraid of it, partially because I was taught at a young age it's just a place.  When my grandparents passed, my mom and stepdad decided they wanted a simpler life and moved in.  It's a few hours away from where I grew up.

I was visiting one night, but I couldn't sleep.  I stayed in the basement bedroom, but there was something that was bothering me.  I then noticed a light in the main room (that the bedroom connects to, the door was open).  I looked, and saw a green ball.  I don't know how else to describe it.  It was fairly small, but moved very fast.  It was glowing, almost like a dark neon green.  I would see it fly across the doorway, disappear for a few seconds, and fly back the other way.  I thought I was seeing things.

Until it came into my room.  I was scared, but more of a 'what in the world' than 'I'm in danger' scared.  I pinched myself (enough to leave a mark for the morning) to make sure I wasn't dreaming.  I even thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.  I put my hand about an inch from my face, and I could still see the ball flying around the edges of my hand.  It seemed like it needed me to do something.  It would linger in one spot by the doorway, like it was watching me, and then zip all around the room again.  I honestly don't remember if it went away or I went to sleep.

The next morning, I asked my mom if she had seen anything odd in the house.  She put down what she was doing and said, 'you've felt it too?'  That is VERY unlike my mom.  She's seen glimpses of things, and often felt like something is watching her.  She then bean dipped me, changing the subject.

Before my parents moved in officially, they rented the house for a few months to some friends who lost their home in a fire.  The wife took me aside once and told me the house is haunted.  She always felt like something was watching her, and didn't want to go back.  This woman is like the towns first lady, and doesn't do anything that may affect her reputation.

I don't really know what the deal is, but I've never been afraid there.  I do believe there is something, possibly because of the proximity to the cemetery.  I moved in there for a while and never saw the ball again.  My cats, however, acted very strangely there (even for them).  They would chase things that weren't there, hide for no reason, and be staring for a long time at nothing.  I've had these cats for 6 years, and when we moved out, the strangeness stopped.  Well, some of it.  They are cats.   ;)

I feel a little silly even saying this.  My first apartment was in a very old building.  I had an issue with the ceiling fan and closet.  I hate ceiling fans.  Every day, I had to turn it off because it somehow turned on.  I would leave for work, make sure it was off, and come home to it working again.  I told my neighbor, and he said 'oh, it's the ghost'.  I rolled my eyes, and he said, 'no, just ask her to stop.'  My first conclusion was that someone had a key to my apartment and was messing with me.  But a few days later, I said outloud, "I really hate this fan.  It always blows my hair into my face, and I can't sleep.  Could you please leave it off, at least at night?"  It never came on again.

Then the closet door started opening.  This isn't just a regular door.  The knob is a deadbolt, you really have to turn it to get it to open (the fuse box/hot water heater were in there).  The door would be open every night when I got home.  This time, I said, "I know you're here.  Thank you for the fan.  Could you please leave the closet door closed?  I don't like having guests over and having them see everything.  I know you're here, you don't have to keep reminding me."   It stopped.  So did the strange things.

Oh my goodness!  I was setting up for Halloween and out of the corner of my eye, I saw a black robed figure on my front porch.  It was there for a split second and then it was gone.

It's Hallowe'en night.  Tonight. My son has carved an awesome Darth Maul pumpkin and it's on a stool so pepole outside can see it.   I'm sitting here watching ghost stuff on TV waiting for trick or treaters, and goofing around online.  Ghost stuff on tv.. oooo interesting!  Wow, look at that!  Cool!  Really?  How ..?  Wow. look at THAT picture!  Creepy OH CRUD MONKEYS *deleted deleted* *beep* THERE"S A FLOATING HEAD OUTSIDE MY WIND.. oh.. trick or treaters.

They were standing there staring at the pumpkin my son did.

I've had "dreams" that were...interesting to say the least.

I say "dreams" because I don't know if it was real or not...it happened at night when I was sleeping.

I also may have posted about these stories before so if I repeat myself, I'm sorry...(and I am really too lazy to re-read this whole thread to see if I've posted about it)

Anyways....Bit of background. Our first house that we owned was very old, original structure built in like 1860 or something. DH was working at a factory and eventually was promoted to supervisor. He was transferred to 3rd shift, which I didn't like, but I delt with it.

Well, one night I was sleeping and had a vague sense that someone was in our house. In my dream I woke up and saw something walk by my bedroom door. It was a shape of a person and was sort of white-gray color. The shape walked by from left to right and when it got to the right side of the door, it sort of tilted back like it was peeking in the door at me. I can remember in my dream just being terrified because I thought someone had broken in. I was trying to scream but no sound came out. When I woke up, I remembered the dream vividly.

Another time, I became an avid church-goer. I mean, everytime the church doors were open, I was there with my kids. I woke up one night to a black shape standing over my bed. It was very evil and it put a hand around my neck as if the strangle me. I yelled in my mind "Get behind me Satan!" three times and it let go. After that, I started praying over my house every night before I went to sleep.

In another dream (and I know this was a dream because my Grandmother was in it and she'd been passed away for a couple of years), I was sitting at my grandmothers house and we were discussing religion. I said that I didn't believe in the devil and then I heard in my head, in my sleep a very evil, guttery voice (almost like those voice changers, but worse) telling me that, yes, there WAS a devil! (I can't remember the whole thing, I've managed to block a lot of it out). But I do remember waking up, turning on all the lights and praying very hard right then. Poor DH thought I was crazy.

And for a good dream...I dreamt that I was somewhere very warm and safe. So full of love and light and very beautiful. It was like I was standing on clouds and it was in a sunrise. I remember being so happy and not wanting to leave. No one else was there but me. I just started crying and sobbing in my dream because I was so excited and happy. I thought I was in Heaven. I remember being very disappointed when I woke up.

When I was 13, my aunts husband passed away. We all referred to him as Uncle. Uncle was a very righteous man. He was a minister and had his own church before subcoming to cancer at the age of 44. The night he passed away, I was not able to say good bye to him. About a week later, I had a dream that my mom, my aunt(his wife) and my grandmother were all sitting on my front porch when his old work van came driving up. (he was a heating and air repair guy) He came up the walk and looked normal(he was a very big man..weighted like 250 before he got sick. During chemo he looked so emaciated that I did not recognize him. He got down to like 120 lbs). He looked very happy and told us that he loved us and just wanted to come and say goodbye.

My cousin(his oldest daughter) has dreams about him all the time.

I didn't post over the weekend, but for All Saints Day and All Souls Day, I posted two more creepy ghost stories on my weblog.

For All Saints Day: my daughter Emily comes for a visit (two, actually)

and for All Souls Day: a mom protects her daughter's grave a hundred eighty years after her death.

Oh my, the stories about dolls just triggered a memory.  Many years ago, I would babysit my two-year-old niece Lily when my sister had to work the night shift.  Lily had a huge collection of dolls and stuffed animals and each night I would put her to bed with a different toy.

One night, after tucking her in bed, I picked a doll from her shelf and started walking towards Lily’s bed.  Her blood-curdling screams stopped me in my tracks.  Shaken by her reaction, I asked what’s the matter?  Lily said “that one bites...”

Since the doll stories had started- I think I may have posted this before- but its still creepy enough for the season.

When I was around 8 I received a doll set for my birthday.
The dolls were a trio of oldest sister (a teenager), middle sister (a girl) and baby sister (a baby).  The dolls were large enough to sit comfortable on my bed, however I didn't really like the look of the teenage one so I never put her there. She spent most of her time in the toy chest.

One night we all troop up to bed with our dog in tow, my mom had turned on the hall light but all the bedrooms were dark.
My dog, by the way, was the most gentle, quiet thing who won't say boo to a goose.  Anyway as my dog went up the stairs and turned to go into my room, she went ballistic.  She started barking and growling with her ears flat back and teeth showing.  My mom, and I looked into my room to see the teenage doll on my bed, leaning at curious angle with one arm out as if to say "hello".

My mom (while trying to calm down the dog) starts scolding me about putting the doll like that to scare everyone.  I immediately started howling that  I hadn't played with that particular doll in ages, and most certainly hadn't put it like that.  (No one else had been in the house before hand, and definitely no one had been in my bedroom.)  My brother, in the pandemonium, grabbed the doll and chucked it down the stairs.

As soon as the doll was gone, my dog quieted down. No barking, no growling or anything.
My mother thought for a moment, and stated that perhaps we should get rid of that particular toy.
It went directly into the outside garbage can, and as I recalled we all three slept in my mom's room at night.

Edited because one day I hope to be able to spell.

Today, I was talking to the little girl who ran out and threw her doll in the trash truck.   As I was talking to her, she casually mentioned there was a ghost halfway down the street.  I asked her where and she said it was by the "blue trash can" (recycling bin.).

She seems like a reasonable girl and not the kind to make things up.

My mother used to get up to answer the phone before it started ringing. Once someone told her what she was doing she stopped.

I creeped several friends out doing that, but it was a very simple explanation in my case. I was wearing headphones, and the connection between the cell phone towers and my cell phones caused some very specific interference in the speakers I was listening to at the time. So every time my phone was about to ring, or a text message was about to come in, the interference would pop up on my speakers (as the cellphone towers established a connection to my phone), and I'd be reaching for my phone before it made any ringing or beeping noise. They were rather disappointed when I explained to them how and why I could tell when my phone was about to ring.

My cell phone does that.  I had it sitting in front of the TV on evening.  The TV started making a buzzing noise and I knew that I was getting a call before the phone every rang.

For all of you ghost story fans, I would like to recommend the Anything Ghost podcast.  I've been listening to it for the past several weeks.
