Wow, I hope it wasn't a pond that was frozen over! That could have been disastrous!
No, it wasn't - fortunately!
It was an engineered oval, designed for ice skating.
Ponds would be 2 years ago when I drove through a flooded intersection, misjudged where the road was and wound up in a flooded ditch.
I still remember the kids yelling "There's water coming in the car!"
I opened my window because I remembered that I wouldn't be able to open the door until pressure equalized. The kids crawled out into the arms of some passers-by.
The car ended up sinking up to the windshield.
My friend drove by to look at this astonishing sight. By this point, the electrical system was fritzing out and the windshield wipers had started up.

She said "I'm sorry, I couldn't help laughing. All I could think was "I don't think that's going to help...."
Turns out that many people stopped to by to gawk at our car. Most took pictures.
A colleague of mine got a picture of
my van emailed to him by his niece - who lives 3000 miles away.

I also took pictures, for insurance purposes. I printed one out and wrote a note to my son's teacher.
"We did not stop to retrieve belongings when we evacuated the vehicle. Please excuse LittleJohnny for not having his homework done."
She said it was the most unique excuse note she'd ever recieved....
