I just popped in to say that I won't be around much anymore...    I have such limited time with work and a wedding to plan, and I used to love just popping in and reading a thread here and there. Unfortunately, with the new forum style, that is just way too hard, and I can't tell at a glace what I've read and what's new. So, I might pop by once in a while, but for now my eHell obsession has been conquered! Although I am sad, I think I might get more work done now!

So sorry to see you go, but I totally understand.  I've been experiencing my own bit of frustration for exactly the same reasons.  It's not so easy to just drop in and catch up anymore.

Unfortunately, with the new forum style, that is just way too hard, and I can't tell at a glace what I've read and what's new.

It isn't that hard.   It's a link under your name at the top of the page and it says, "Show me unread messages to me".   In each thread list, next to each thread subject is a tiny "new" which takes you immediately to the new posts in that thread you haven't read yet.  It actually me less time to check messages to me and unread threads than before.

Oh, I know how to do it. I just don't find it easier. I loved the format of the old forum, and I find the new one more time consuming, and less conducive to finding the threads I am interested in. I don't want to sound like a sook though! I'm sure for many people it will be easier, but we all like different things and ways of doing things. Since I don't really like this one, I find it takes more time and less enjoyment to read, ergo I will spend less time here. And maybe get the 140 students reports written, and the text book chapter that has a looming deadline done, and the high school timetable I have to create for a school of 1000 kids for next year organised, and all while planning my wedding in early Jan!

Yes, I liked the other forum so much I tenaciously refused to change it when my hosting provider kept telling me to.  I changed it only under threat of not having the entire domain switched back on.  Having switched though, I can see where there are better features and a more efficient use of the database resources.  The admin tools for example, are even more sophisticated and powerful.  It's actually even easier for the mods to moderate.     There are more "mods" or modification packages for this forum software that I haven't even begun to explore yet so there may be ways to tweak it even further.

Sorry to see you leaving, Melnve ... sounds like you do have about 3 tonnes of work to do, though! You know you can always find us, even if the forum - gods forbid - moves again. Google is a wonderful thing.
