Adding a word to the filter before I get myself in trouble?
« on: February 14, 2008, 07:49:54 PM »
Hello Mods and Powers that Be

The word 'gluteus maximus' is (as you can see) changed by the filter.

The word 'bottom' is not.

The former is the more common American spelling (and an animal). The latter is the English spelling (with a slight pronunciation difference), but in most contexts (for the purposes of this board) would mean the same.

I keep typing the English spelling then realising the filter will not pick it up, and that I may get in trouble for attempting to circumvent the filter. Which I am not - it's just the way I (and I imagine a handful of others) spell the word!

So, as much a I am not a fan of the filtering process, can we please add 'bottom' to the filter, so that I need no longer fear getting myself in trouble for inappropriate language. Unless of course there is a perfectly good reason it is not filtered, in which case I shall just try to remember to type the one that gives me a muscle name.  :D

Thank you.

I'm obviously not a moderator, but I imagine the difference is in what ads each word might generate. I see no inappropriate ads loading when I refresh this page, so it probably isn't an issue.

(BTW, I should kick myself for doing this, but I think you meant "circumvent" rather than "circumnavigate." :) )

Thanks Cathy!

I hadn't thought of that for the filter. I assumed (and we know I shouldn't have) it was because it could be offensive. Like saying dingdangity, or another general curseword.

Thanks also for the correction - I had a bad feeling typing it and hesitated before I was done. But couldn't think of what other word I could be trying to type!
Circumnavigating a filter is probably an overly involved (and time consuming, and unreliable... and what would I do that in anyway? A flying glossary?) way of getting around the problem. I really should just circumvent it.  :D

I just have to say, I love the flying-glossary idea.  Perhaps that can be added to our list of Ehell tools.
 >:D
Thanks for the smiles!
