If a chaperone of the group and a tour guide on two separate occasions said that the group was from Lansing, MI then I believe that's where they were from. The lacrosse jackets & tees also seem to indicate that they are from that area. The Superintendant is saying that the Lansing Middle School District has not taken any overnight trips this year? Well, perhaps our new members could be of assistance in identifying which particular Lansing, MI schools these students are from. Seems to be much more productive than attacking the OP. Whether it be a private school, charter school, etc. the administration of the school these kids attend needs to be made aware of the situation.

Like so many parents you read about on this site, though, these people seem more interested in making sure their pwecious kids aren't held accountable for any bad behavior they may have exhibited.  They are not interested in learning the truth or correcting the bad behavior.

I would love to be able to help "identify" these children. I do recall you stated that they said ____ Middle School Lacrosse. Any other identifying markers you can remember on their clothes (colors?) DCGirl?

I'm so sorry that your thread has ended up being a bashfest. That "anger curve" sometimes lasts a lot longer for some people than for others.

Also, you say you're writing a letter to the school board... what school board? If you got the state wrong, then chances are you aren't sending the letter to the proper school board. I'd really like to know what you saw (a city, a school name) to make you think they were from Michigan.

We Lansing folk would appreciate it if (1) you would apologize for publicly and incorrectly criticizing our students and (2) stop.

Thanks. :-)

If the letter was sent, and the Super knows there have been no overnight trips, there is no harm or foul, as they will most likely assume the letter was sent by mistake.

Not to mention, that the OP was told that's where the students were from. "Politely" trolling a site is still just that. Trolling.

DCGirl, while you might need to do a little more investigating to find out who you need to write, I think you should go through with the letter, and Eviltrish says mention the "backlash" from "newsmen" about your post here, though, that would be bad.

I now believe that the kids with the jackets, who were a subset of the larger group, were from league for middle school aged players, not from a specific school.  I am choosing not to give the name here lest I be accused of bashing innocent athletes.  I have given the ehelldame the name of the school.

I just wanted to defend our school district on this issue.  I wanted to set you straight on your egregious error - the kids who terrorized your visit were not from Michigan at all.

Oh, yes, they were from Michigan.

I just got off the phone with Courtney, Monticello's Group Tours coordinator.  She identified the group as four bus loads from Boulan Park Middle School in Troy, Michigan.  Troy is a suburb of Detroit but it is close enough to Lansing for it to not be so farfetched that people, including tour guides and chaperones, would identify the group as being from Lansing.  Sort of like my telling people I am from Washington DC only because they wouldn't have any clue where my real home town is.

Well... there you go.

I would hope at this point that the "anger curve" from Lansing is almost at an end.

Sheesh.. again, I am SO sorry!

I don't think you need to apologize for anything! You certainly don't speak for anyone else...or maybe you do... ;)

So it turns out that yes, technically the students were not from Lansing, MI. But this misunderstanding was through no fault or assumption of the OP's.

What's there to be sorry for?  You're well behaved and seem quite nice.  Unlike a certain columnist who certainly doesn't know how to make Lansing look very good.  Encouraging trolling...  sheesh.  Nothing says maturity and class like a mass trolling.  Like that's going to give people a good impression of Lansing.

Hey, EhellDame, thanks for getting that clarified.

I guess I am sorry for being a troll too (not exactly sure what the definition is of that.. but it sounds bad!). I'm familiar with lurking, and I do that occasionally at some other boards. man, I just told on myself.

Thank you to whomever approved my registration here! I really like you guys and I will definitely stick around :)

I'll let some of our wordsmiths explain trolling, you certainly don't sound like one. Welcome to the board and I hope that you enjoy yourself here. :)

Troll:  somebody who purposely goes to a board, with the sole purpose of stirring up trouble.

You're not a troll, lansingmom!  A troll, IMO, is someone who intentionally comes into a board/forum to create a problem or stir up trouble.
