Telling on myself
« on: February 10, 2007, 06:18:49 PM »
I volunteer at the dojang where DD and I train.  This means I'm there as often as I can be and I take photos of tests for the website, etc.  Today I was there from 10 am - 5:15 pm.  Today we had a belt test, followed by an Open House to celebrate opening our new location.

One of the students testing had committed a few major etiquette blunders by questioning our instructor on things that were not his place to.  He's also pushy and rude, as apparently, his wife has become, also.  Admittledly, this does not make me fond of them at all, but that doesn't excuse what I did.

I went into the back room to get my bag.  Bare feet find all sorts of things - this time my bare feet found a VERY cold, very wet spot on the carpeting.  I looked and found that the coffee counter was covered in water, also.  Ugh, I thought to myself.  A leak!  So I grabbed my SaBumNim and brought him back.

"No, no leak - Student A & Student B's kids were back here playing with the water."  He pointed up to where a 2 1/2 gallon jug of water was.  He was rather annoyed, even after stopping them.

I sighed, thinking of all the issues this family has already caused (including one child screaming so loudly during the belt test his father was taken that even after he'd been taken outside, we could hear him.  Oh, and he screamed so badly he made himself vomit).  "Doesn't *anyone* in that family have any self-control?" I asked quietly, realizing that said family was still up by the desk.

He shook his head and we exited the room... to find Student A standing there getting his gear together.

I should have kept my mouth shut.  He gave me such a glare.

True or not, I shoud not have said anything at all :(

You probably shouldn't have said it, but I don't blame you at all.  ::)

Everyone has done that at one time or another.

Who knows, maybe you have started them on the path of enlightenment and they will start properly supervising their children.

Maybe not.

I'm thinking it's more likely he'll complain about me to SaBumNim.  But since SaBumNim is already annoyed at being TOLD by this guy that he was ready to test (uh, hello?  Since when does the student do this?), and he told me not to worry about what I said because it's true, I'm not exactly worried about getting in trouble ;)  I just feel a bit bad.

Alida Dmed - is this dojang Korean Tai Kwan Do or something from Korean culture?  I ask because I recognized Dojang and SaBumNim as Korean words - Nim being someone in authority.  I was SongSangNim when I a teacher in Korea.  YOu're in PA, so I'm a tad confused.

Yes, I am taking TaeKwonDo - it's a W.T.F. associated school :)

(LOL - W.T.F., without the periods, becomes: May I please ask what is happening here?)

At my dojo, it is a big etiquette blunder to even ask when one is testing.  I cannot imagine even telling my instructor that I am ready to test.  This man is lucky that SaBumNim did not create a very "special" test for him to teach humility.

The test he did get today?  I was ready to call 911.  He was about ready to pass out.  It was actually worrisome, but they were careful and pushed him JUUUUST far enough.

And the guy is not happy that he was told that he would be told WHEN he would be ready, not the other way around.  It took months after him asking that before SaBumNim thought he would pass.  Even so, it was by the skin of his teeth.
