I've *never* been comfortable with these kinds of conversations and I'm of the age where many people are cool with it.  I'm no prude, but I'd just rather not know these things about my friends.  (My best friend of 20 years is a different story, I don't get embarrassed if she discusses private things but we are practically sisters.)

My usual response is a half-hearted chuckle followed by a quick change of subject.  If they don't get the hint I do a "Whoah - WAY too much information there" in a joking manner that (hopefully) doesn't embarrass them.

I don't discuss that stuff ... with anyone besides DH, that is.

I don't think it's wrong to do so, I just couldn't look someone in the eyes after a discussion like that. I usually try to change the subject or say something like, "OK, there's the line, you just long-jumped over it, let's talk about something that doesn't involve 'love-cuffs' and chocolate pudding."

There are others that are best talked about by those who have shared a similar experience and possibly want to get additional information as they are about to share that experience.  Toilet training tips, pregnancy symptoms, and similar issues come to mind - but there are probably a lot of subjects that qualify.

That's a good one to bring up. Personally, i would rather hear about someone's, uh, mattress dancing than their epesiotomy, or what happens when you're breast feeding & get an infection, or what iddle cuteles BMs look like after he eats fruits & veggies as opposed to dairy ... and, yes, i have been treated to all of these & not by the same person. Um, grody. and TMI. and again, grody.
Not that i WANT to hear about anyone's mattress dancing, either, mind you; but people seem to assume that all things to do with children/pregnancy are "natural" and therefore acceptable topics of conversation ... and that those of us that don't want to hear it are somehow immature. BaH!!

ok. end rant.

Thank you, seriously, for bringing that one up in particular. It's an excellent point, and i think you put all of that really well.

It's alright, man. I'm only bleeding, man. Stay hungry, stay free, and do the best you can.

What happened to me when I was an innocent 17-year-old would be called Sexual Harassment nowadays. What my slightly older male colleagues talked about in my presence was disgusting. They had no respect for me and my upbringing, so I have no respect for people who sleep around and talk about it!
