Biscuits?
« on: February 29, 2008, 08:20:33 PM »
I have a million biscuit recipes, but I haven't tried most of them, so I don't know what kind of biscuits they'd make.  I'm looking for something close to the artery clogging buttery biscuits you get at Popeyes or KFC.  Anyone have a good recipe?  Thanks in advance!

I made biscuits once and used Alton Brown's recipe.

They turned out good, but I'm just not fond of biscuits.  DH grew up in the south and he said they taste exactly as they should.

Alton's is pretty close to my grndma's recipe. I suggest going with that one.

Add a tablespoon of potato flakes (instant mashed) to the flour  and they'll be fluffier.

Thanks everyone, I'm trying them tonight.  BF's been working hard cleaning all day, and he deserves a treat :)  I'll let everyone know how they are.

Now, what do I do with all the leftover buttermilk?

Mmm, they were delicious!  I forgot to try the potato flakes, though, I'll do that Tuesday, since I have buttermilk to get rid of now.

You should have seen BF's face when he figured out what I was making (it was a surprise).  He was so happy :D

leftover buttermilk: make pancakes or waffles or red velvet cake. Or you can freeze it for later use.

Nope, I'm not allowed to make anything else with it.  I've been ordered to make biscuits and more biscuits and more biscuits ;)

I told him if he goes to the store for sausage and gravy stuff, I'll do biscuits and gravy for breakfast tomorrow, and you should have seen his face light up :)

I remembered the potato flake thing on the second batch, it worked great!
