Am I reading too much into this?
« on: February 14, 2007, 02:37:11 PM »
So DH(John) has been looking for a job since he grads in May.  He went on an interview on Friday and received this email today.  Am I reading too much into it, or does it sound like he has a really good chance of getting a job offer?  He says the interview went really well and he'd take the job if they offered it to him.  I really hope he gets a job offer.  I'd say from this email he sounds like he has a 80% of getting a job offer if not more.

I'm just really optimistic because during the interview the guy mentioned about how they've been doubling (increasing by like 50%) their engineering staff every year for the past 4 years and this year too.  They're looking to fully staff one office and that was the one where John applied.  So I'm hoping he fits into their plan of hiring an additional like 30 engineers.

What do you think???

John:

I wanted to follow up with you after the interview.  Things went well from our perspective.  Our best bet is to keep in touch these next two months.  We typically write offer letters about one month before the start date.  If you were offered a position, when would you be able to start?

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Kirk

It sounds promising, but remember, no offer is an offer until they actually say, "John, we're offering you employment."

I think John should go ahead and answer, but recognize that he still hasn't been offered a job by this company, and they may never do so.
I'm away from sanity right now...please leave a message after the beep.

ITA - It sounds like they want to offer him something, and are trying to see if he will fit with what they need ('when would you start' comment), and dont want him to be put off by the idea that he wont hear from them until April.

I wouldn't reccommend putting his eggs all in this basket though, because, even if they have the best of intentions, a lot can change in the next two months.

congrats and good luck!

don't count chickens

I have seen people near and dear to me crushed by not getting jobs that seemed so imminent -- so yes, this is encouraging -- he is definitely a potential finalist  BUT he may also be on the 'waiting list' in case their 3 top choices decline -- or things may change

so he should feel good about making a good impression but not let up on his search -- these things have a way of evaporating

hope it works out
