Costco usually has great deals on the KA mixer as well as Kohls.com.  At kohls online, they have a great comparison part where you can see the difference btwn all the models of the KA mixers.

In addition to the pasta maker attachment, there is a fantastic one for grinding meat.  If you want to buy a chuck roast and grind it to ground beef, you can.

I think anyone who cooks would LOVE to get a KA mixer.  I use mine for mashed potatoes, sauces etc.  It is mostly for baking, but not limited to that.
Speaking from my small nearly counterless, nearly cabinetless kitchen, I would not know where to put one if I got it, so I would hate getting one...but  a pasta machine, now I could get behind that!
I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

I was raised in a house with a KitchenAid mixer (my mother's is something like 35 years old), and I just can't imagine not having one. I've had mine for almost ten years.

I use mine for cookies, cakes, and quick breads, mixing and kneading yeast bread doughs, pie crust, mashing potatoes, mixing meatloaves and meatballs, sauces, frosting, and all kinds of foods. It's perfect for creaming butter, shortening or cream cheese. It's a great wrist-saver when whipping cream or egg whites.

That mixer is also great for mixing the oil back into a "natural" peanut butter. I just dump the whole jar in and mix, then put it back in the jar. Beats the heck out of spilling oil all over the jar and counter trying to mix it in by hand. Gah! What a mess.

I have a small kitchen with limited counter and cupboard space too.  We also don't have a basement.  Mine is on the shelving unit in the garage, covered by a towel to protect it from dust.  I bring it in whenever I want to use it.

Those with newer homes or thinking of doing a kitchen remodel, there are now units that can be built into cabinetry to specifically house the mixer.  It fits on a platform and slides down into it's own little cubby.  It's out of the way, but is easy to bring out without lifting the whole unit.  If I ever do a remodel, that will be one the must haves for me.

I had a sort of fake one, which was comprised of a hand mixer and glass bowl and a stand to hold them both.  I loved that thing, and used it until it wore out.

I kept it atop my refrigerator.

If you have the cabinet space, you could have that now.  That is the premier website for that sort of thing.  I didn't get it, because it is a $100.

I decorated around the Kitchenaid.   :)  It is fire engine red, so I put bright red knobs on the cabinets and bought a matching red trashcan.

If I was renovating my kitchen, I would definitely spend the $100 for it.  It would be one of my must haves.

That's great.   :D  Mine is the pink breast cancer one.  I don't really like pink, but it's growing on me.

A pink breast cancer commemorative Kitchen Aid mixer?

That just seems a bit...well, something.

Well, all of the mixers were the same price, but if you bought the pink one $50 went toward breast cancer research.  I couldn't think of any reason to not do it.

I loved the pink mixers (mine is white with a dark red stripe on the head), but of course, I could not justify replacing my perfectly good one. I did, however, buy the pink nesting mixing bowl set when they had them at Williams Sonoma.

Ha! I am glad I'm not the only one who did this... I knew I wanted red in my kitchen, so when I got my kitchenaid (as a gift) I requested red. After I bought my house I found a pair of vintage curtains from the 50's that pick up all the colors of my kitchen including the red.

I love my mixer, I use it at least twice a week. But like the others, I generally use it for baking.. some day I'm going to buy the pasta attachment.... and maybe the meat grinder for DH.

I used the meat grinder yesterday for the first time.  I tried my hand at making won tons for won ton soup, which calls for minced pork and shrimp.  Ground them up beautifully.  Whle it was dirty, I went ahead and ground a pound of lean pork for the freezer.

Tonight, I'm making a king cake for Mardi Gras tomorrow.

I thought about getting DH the pasta attachement for the Kitchen Aid.  But I also want the ravioli attachment and then it got expensive.  I ended up getting a pasta maker cheaper than the attachment and then the store sold me a ravioli maker that requires less coordination than the Kitchen Aid one.

Where do you dry your pasta?
