A Truly Funny Movie
« on: February 17, 2007, 06:30:53 PM »
I don't reccommend films here often because a lot of the things I watch (especially comedies) are no where near forum appropriate due to my rather sick sense of humor. BUT...this one is a keeper and I think that most of you will like it.
"Little Miss Sunshine" is fall in the floor hilarious. It's a bit offbeat but I don't think that it would really offend anyone (but don't watch if you're hypersensitive, there is swearing and a few sicko jokes. Nothing awful or blatant, but the "f" word does get used a bit). It really is funny as heck, my husband and I were in stitches....
We're going to watch "The Departed" tonight, if anyone wants a review, PM me. But be warned, I am a movie snob...
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

I LOVED "Little Miss Sunshine"! Several friends had recommended it to me, and I have recommended it to others. Not everyone's cup of tea, some may be offended by the language of some characters, but it is SUCH a funny movie! I like the teen son character the best!

The pageant scene alone is enough to warrant an Oscar.

That movie is so funny. I watched it with my sister we cracked up. My mom watched it with my brother my sister called and my mom couldnt talk. She was laughing so hard she was choking. I told my mom we need to get that movie because we are sure our whole family will want to see it. I love watching funny movies with my family. The last one we all saw together ( extended family) that was super funny was My Big Fat Greek Wedding so we need a new one.

Oh I have to second (third?) that. LOVED this movie and have been recommending it to all and sundry. Every single character was so well-observed, and I love the fact that the little girl was so "ordinary" and not some precocious brat. As for the other pageant kids, whoa....scary. The dance scene at the pageant had me both laughing and crying, it takes a lot to do that!  ;D

Assuming it is out on video or dvd I know what I'm going to do this afternoon....I love funny movies!  Thanks.
I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

One of my employees went to a pre-screening of LMS and so highly recommended it, I was quick to rent it.  The cast is awesome, especially the kids.  I think this is Steve Carroll's best work.  As a warning, though, this is R rated and not appropriate for kids.  (I know EHellions know better than to put the tots in front of any movie, but when I read the reviews on the Blockbuster website, I was horrified that people equated 'movie with kids' as a 'movie for kids'.)

I thought Steve Carrell was brilliant, but Grandpa walked off with my heart...he was fall out hilarious!! And Dwayne...
Every one of them was fabulous. Olive's dance at the pageant is definitely one for the time capsule. How anyone in that scene kept a straight face is beyond me...

Oh my goodness.  I rented that movie about a month ago and loved it! :D  It was hilarious!!!  And, like others of you have said, that pageant scene was fall-on-the-floor funny.

Yep, he was also hilarious in Anchorman (though it was a smaller part, he stole the scenes he was in, hands down!)

I just watched that a couple of weeks ago (Anchorman).  I laughed until I almost fell off the couch.  I MUST see 40-Year-Old Virgin!

I like Will Farrell too.  He's got a new one coming out called Blades of Glory (about pairs skating).  As a skater, I think it will be a hoot.

PS - Most skating movies are a hoot because they get everything wrong!

He also used to be on the Daily Show (I miss those days), and was a part of one of my favorite segments, "Even Stevphen".  It was supposed to be a debate on various issues, between he and fellow correspondent Stephen Colbert.  They never could finish actually debating the topic at hand before it turned into a full out insult war between the two of them.  It was always highly entertaining, and really did nail some of the ugliness that you see on stupid news shows, between various reporters who disagree on topics.

You will *love* 40- Year Old Virgin. Do not drink soda while watching this movie. Bubbles up your nose = pain :)

It looks funny.  I love in the preview where they wax his chest hair and he screams "OOORRRHHHHKELLYCLARKSON!"

I must have missed something. I just watched Little Miss Sunshine today and I found totally UNfunny.

I am rather clueless as to why it was nominated for best picture.

The only thing I felt was sorry for little Olive.

Alan Arkin was sort of funny as the addict grandpa but other than that....I did not find it funny at all.
