TV shows you're 'ashamed' to admit you watch
« on: February 18, 2007, 11:27:15 AM »
I'd LOVE to get responses on this one.

I have 2...

I love Degrassi: The Next Generation!  For those of you that don't know, this is a Canadian v show aimed at teens.  I am a 29 year old mother of a 10 year old and can't get enough of this show.  I have to be home at 7pm on Friday nights to see it, THEN we can go out.  I've watched webisodes on the Ns website, and am currently buying the seasons available on dvd.

Extra Pure trashy fluff.....  I hate to miss it!

Anybody else???

I'm not ashamed to admit it, but I love the Nanny. I have the first two seasons on DVD and am anxiously awaiting the seasons 3-6! I have most of seasons 4, 5 and 6 on videotapes that I made from reruns on Lifetime.

Well I'm not totally ashamed to admit I watch this show, but I do admit to it with an embarassed expression on my face. I watch the soap opera "General Hospital." I DVR it and watch it real quick when I get home. I LOVE that show and love all the drama. Some plotlines are absurd but I don't care. It's campy and fun!!

That's funny!  They make them sound like a "housewife, stay at home mom" kind of thing.  But every female Manager or VP I've had that I've come to know on a more friendly level, has had one soap they taped!  My manager right now, whom I love, btw, Tivo's The View and All My Children!  If only I'd have known it was okay!  Mothers can be so outdated sometimes!  ::)

Oh, and I was asked to add by my BF, that he, former Marine and soon to be police officer is the only person I know that likes Degrassi more than me!   ;D

Not ashamed, for many reasons, but I sure wish I could kick the habit.

TNT runs "Charmed" four hours a day (two hours in the mornings and two in the afternoons), and I feel compelled to watch. I keep hoping they'll run it straight through the final season just one more time so I can say I'm done with it, but this last time through they played the end of season seven and jumped back to season five. Ouch.

Medium.

I also LOVE Law&Order and all its spin-offs, but  I'm not ashamed of that.  Also, my super-secret guilty pleasure is....  Old episodes of Spin City.

I am totally bummed that WEST WING is gone now, and I would adore my husband forever if he'd buy me the series on DVD.... but I'd never ask for it, because "I don't watch TV"   LOL!

I'd LOVE to get responses on this one.

Well, I kind of like those E! Entertainment specials, like "The 100 Best Moments in Film", the "100 Worst Celebrity Faux Pas", etc. Totally addictive!

When I was a teen the entire country was hooked on the soap "Loving". I had (still have, somewhere) books with detailed descriptions of characters, plotlines, actors, etc. A few years ago I actually found a website that had a "Loving FAQ" on it, and I read through it going, "That's wrong, and that's wrong, and THAT's wrong..." ;D

I don't like reality shows; they're boring. I much prefer shows involving spaceships and aliens! Every so often a child will say, "Ma'am, do you watch {whatever}?" and I'll say, "Are there aliens in it?" Child will go, all confused, "Uh... no..." and I'll then say, "Then, no, I don't. I only watch stuff that has aliens!" One girl said to me, "But Ma'am, you watch Smallville!!" And I said, "Yes, and Clark is from WHERE?" She was like, "Uh... Krypton?" I said, "Yes! Exactly!" And she scr3wed up her face and said, sounding shocked, "You mean SUPERMAN is an ALIEN?!!"  Hehe.

I also LOVE Law&Order and all its spin-offs, but  I'm not ashamed of that.

I never watch Law&Order, because I knew I'd get hooked on it and half my nights would be spent watching. So I just avoided it.

But somehow I got hooked on CSI, and I'm not ashamed of that either. I like all the shows. Someone on this forum said that people should be ashamed to watch CSI Miami because it's so unrealistic, with people wearing high heels to crime scenes. Eh. I like it. I still prefer the Vegas show to the spin-offs, mainly because the characters are likeable. I mean, in CSI Miami Eric got shot and I didn't even care! I do like the characters in CSI NY and Vegas though. Gary Sinise... hmmm... Gary Dourdan... hmmm...

OH MY GOSH!  I forgot about Battlestar Galactica!  I watched the first season and half of the second before I told anyone I liked it, I didn't want to be the "geeky sci-fi girl".  Now I tell everyone about it, it's the best show on TV IMHO.  I take a lot of ribbing from the guys at work, but I think they're just jealous that my BF has a GF that will watch the SciFi channel with him.  I've even heard my boss telling his wife that she could try watching Stargate or something with him because he knew of a girl (me  :P )that tried it and liked it!!   ;D

I'm not ashamed to say I watch these, but I don't know of any I am ashamed to watch so these are ones that, say, Albert Einstein probably wouldn't watch.
I tape Days of Our Lives every single day and watch it.  I got hooked on it when I was off sick for a week sound the beginning of 2000, and have taped it ever since.
I like the Nanny programs.  I think there are two?  I used to watch that Paris and Nicole show.  I wouldn't have allowed them in my house in real life, though.  They were just too unpredictable.

I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

I guess I'm ashamed to admit that I'll watch reruns of lots of 70s and 80s shows.
I'm away from sanity right now...please leave a message after the beep.

When My So Called Life was on i couldn't get enough of it. That was aimed at teens, too. >sigh< Jordan Catelano ... hobgoblinish drifts off staring dreamily into space.

I've even heard my boss telling his wife that she could try watching Stargate or something with him because he knew of a girl (me  :P )that tried it and liked it!!   ;D

Battlestar is awesome! I didn't want to like it. When i heard the show was in the making i was so excited until i found out that Starbuck was made a GIRL!?!?!?!!!! What the ...? Cue shocked and apalled. I loved the 70's one and even have the book, and i was so disgusted that they messed with it like that. Well, bf borrowed the first season from a friend and i couldn't help it ... i was sucked in immediately. It's such a great show! Now my friend John uses me as an example when telling people about it, "Dude, hobgoblinish hates everything, and even after trying to hate it she watches it now!"  :)
It's alright, man. I'm only bleeding, man. Stay hungry, stay free, and do the best you can.
