Obi Wan is still up the tree. :'(

The humane society said that all I can do is wait him out and he will come down.

It is cold and very windy and he sounds so sad.

The neighbor with the cherry picker is in Arizona.

I told my husband that if he is not down by tomorrow noon, I was going to call a tree service to have the tree taken out and tell them "oh, by the way can you remove the cat first?"

When Jessica has gone up the tree we shook her "pounce" can and she came down.  Although one time I picked up a stuffed toy and started cuddling it.... she thought I had another fur-baby and was jealous... that got her down!   Then there is another tactic.... I fed her brother treats in front of her.....  and let him play with "her" toy.   But she usually doesn't stay up there very long.

Best of luck with your baby, and I hope you have a very happy ending.

YES!!  My cat goes crazy when I dare cuddle a stuffy-jealously is an understatement.

Merry, try sitting under the tree with a life-sized stuffed cat (or as close as you have) and talk to it like you do Obi Wan, if he's anything like mine or Pixie's cat, he'll be down in no time!

Oh, boy! I'd third that suggestion!

Mine has never been jealous of stuffies, but the one time I was cuddling a baby in front of him, he went ballistic! He considers himself my "baby", he did NOT want anyone else to have that privilege. I couldn't get him off my ankles all night, even after the baby went home!
You are only young once. After that you have to think up some other excuse.

Our previous kitty loved Pounce treats.

We called feeding them to her "Pouncing the cat" (breaking our "no nouns as verbs" rule).

Obi Wan finally left the tree just as it was getting dark.  He had come down about 10 feet and seemed to be stuck again.  So I went out and started calling him and shaking a container of kibble.

My DH, bless his heart, climbed up on the roof so he could get near the tree.

My kitty slowly, a branch at a time, and with a few near falls came down.  At one point Obi was hanging upside down clinging to a skinny branch with all four paws.  When he recovered from that he needed a bit of a rest before climbing a ways down again.

It took about 1/2 an hour of continuous encouragement before he got close enough that my DH could grab him.  He didn't cling or scratch or anything.  He came in and went to the supper dish, used the box and is sleeping in his favorite chair right now.

He did seem to want a lot of cuddles and the other cats seem happy to see him too.

So all is well and thanks for all the encouraging words.

Oh, thank goodness!

One of the strays outside likes to climb on roofs...  and then doesn't know how to get back down!  When she sees me, she just cries her pitiful "mraaaaaaaaaar!".  It takes some time, but she eventually gets back down.  Once, she was in the neighbors' tree, not much taller than the roof, and she didn't know how to get down from there either.  I just stayed under the tree and coaxed her down.  She managed to make her way down with only one near-slip.  I gave her a big hug when she got down!   :)

Thank goodness!

I was so worried about your kitty last night, (actually had trouble sleeping) I was planning on offer to send you money to help get her down if she was not down when I got up.

I am so happy to hear this had a happy ending,  maybe now the silly kitty will stay close to mommy and not climb trees in the future.

I'm so glad he's safe and sound.

Don't ever let him get out of the house again!  This is too nerve-wracking for all of you.

I'm so glad that Obi Wan is safe and sound! It's funny with cats, I wonder why they would yowl and meow for help and want to get down so badly, but they still hang out there for awhile. Could it be that it just takes a long time for them to figure it out? You'd think it would be instinctive, though.

And from your description of his descent, I really wish we could see a video or pictures of it.  ;)

Good kitty! Good DH! Good MerryRaven for maybe still having a little cuticle unchewed and hair unpulled after all this?

Even better if the other kitties give Obi Wan the good "talking to" that he clearly needs after that!

Thank goodness! Now let's hope the little Jedi doesn't get the idea that trees are "fun".

You're so right! "Gosh. Mommy was soooo worried and I got soooo much attention. It's fun to watch my humans tear their hair out. Hmmmm...."

While we were being selected by the Egyptian Mau who owns us (Cleo), the irresponsible parent of the human variety/vet had some older cousin kitties in another room behind a closed door. We noticed the building had drop ceilings throughout and asked if that had ever been a problem, to which the irresponsible parent of the human variety answered that it hadn't. Apparently the cats hadn't yet discovered they could get up there.

Ten minutes after we asked the question, cats started dropping out of the ceiling. I guess they understood English better than anyone knew. Gotta love cats' senses of humor.

I'm convinced that there is nothing funnier to cats than watching us pull our hair out looking for them when they've decided to hide away in a crevass somewhere.
