My absolute favorite is STD for Save The Date!   ;D

It makes me giggle everytime I see it, because it always makes me think of something else entirely... It reminds me of doing Mad Libs when I was a kid!

I looked up o_o because I see it being used, but I still don't really 'get it'

According to urbandictionary.com it is to mean:

Confused, stunned, or weirded out.

o_O what do you mean?
o_O what is that?!
o_O Whoa Sweet monkey fritters!

I 'get' most acronyms and smilies but this one just confuses me  ???

Raise one of your eyebrows in a "what the??" expression, and look at yourself in the mirror. One of your eyes will be open wide, one will be squinting. The o_O is supposed to look like your eyes.

I think this falls under the category of definitions.

And it drives me buggy when I can't figure these out on my own  >:D

But why do people write rel@tionship and d@ting with the ampersand like that?

At first I thought it meant a b@d relationship, but I just saw something that sort of nixed that one.

I have a feeling I'm going to feel very stupid when this gets explained.

It's the filter. Having those words in gets us some odd ads, so the filter edits them. You'll notice that it happened to your posts too.

We actually have a filter with a sense of humor. I'm often tempted to start a post where I swear as many times as I can, just to find out what all the replacements are. But I rarely swear, and I'm not willing to get in trouble to find out.

Heh....no I put them in my posts on purpose to illustr@te :)

But thanks so much - I don't feel stupid because I never, ever would have figured that out.

It does make sense.

I wish you would, so you could send me a key to them.  Not that I want to cuss, but I would like to know what was substituted.

What is Crud Monkeys substituted for, for instance?

I don't know. I'm not sure how much trouble I would be in for having a thread whose sole purpose would be to swear enough to find out.

I've figured a lot of them out, but not all of them.  Unfortunately, starting a thread might not be safe, because there are a few that are clearly inappropriate that the filter doesn't catch.  I'd suggest writing a post, then previewing it, without posting it.  It'll show you all the replacements :)

We have a thread for the word filter already. It was loads of fun. ;D
