Group Leader etiquette--to scream or not to scream...?
« on: December 09, 2006, 08:39:52 AM »
Actually, I plan on not screaming.

If you guys remember from the old-old forum, it has befallen me to take charge of my local Christian writers group, and we have two members who make life difficult for the rest. One makes mysogynist comments to the otherwise all-female group  ::) and the other makes derogatory comments about other denominations, one of which I happen to belong to.  >:(

You guys gave me advice on how to handle the situation this time. Well, in an hour, I'm leaving to head into the lion's den, and I'm going to have to put it into practice.

"Snarky, this is a writer's group and not a religious debate forum."

Lather, rinse, repeat.

And also,

"Mr. Macho, if you dislike the company of women so much, perhaps this is not the group for you."

And finally,

"Excuse me, but that comment was out of line."

And every other etiquettehell trick you guys have taught me. I'm nervous. I'm stressed thinking about it. But by golly, I am prepared!

Cue the trumpets, ehellions. I'm a-going into battle!

It went wonderfully! The two trouble-makers didn't show up!

I mean, I'm not *happy* that they got sick, but I was happy that they weren't making me sick.

good for you for deciding to speak up and being prepared.   I always feel so intimidated when I dont know how to speak up in a situation where I feel uncomfortable.  Then I get aggravated with myself for not knowing how to handle it.  It sounds like you have some great ammo  so double kudos to you! keep us posted about when you do encounter them!
