Cop ran Nephew for priors.
« on: February 22, 2007, 11:22:23 AM »
As you may recall, Nephew punched out Niece's boyfriend, The Dirt Bag.

Nephew is understandably terrified of going to court, and perhaps, jail.

I was telling my mom, he might get some slack because it was his first offense.  She said it isn't, he had gotten in trouble in Indiana.  She wasn't sure what it was, though.

Sooooo, being nosy, I mean concerned.  I had Cop run his name through the police computer system.

Nephew apparently has no driver's license.

He got stopped by the police (tail light violation) the other day.  He said he got a ticket was because he was driving around (in my mom's car! :o) on his Indiana driver's license, while living in Maine.  You know, I thought that sounded fishy.

Also, does he HAVE to eat everything that's not tied down?  He ate my son's Pringles that were left on the table.  He could at least ask.

You know what kills me?  I keep thinking of Nephew as being the least problematic person in his immediate family.   ;)  If this is good, I'd hate to see bad.

IndianInLaw, I had a roommate once like, well, your nieces/nephew/SIL. It was one thing after another, each scrape more incredible than the last, until they reached the truly mind-boggling stage.

You can't help them - all you can do is stand and stare in amazement. At least I was able to move out.

Cop ought to be fired for running personal snoops through the system -- that has got to be abuse of his authority

As I understand Freedom of Information Act in U.S., arrest warrants, court decisions, arraignments and similar things are all public record. Police have access to more efficient ways to search, but IndianInLaw could do same thing herself by contacting each court and police department in each jurisdiction Nephew lived in. It just took Cop less time.
Joy in Virginia - where you can look up sex offenders in State Police online database, and look up which prisoners are in what state prisons online!

ITA with Joy in Virginia....here in North Carolina, I can look up sex offenders, court dockets, and prison info:  including pictures if they are currently incarcerated.  This is all through government websites and free as well.

Cop isn't getting fired for looking up someone's record.  If it weren't allowed, he wouldn't do it.  He's not allowed to run license plate numbers, so he doesn't do that....no matter how many times I ask. ;)

It would take more than that to get fired.  You wouldn't believe the nonsense some of the officers get into.  Man, oh man :o

Anyways,  Cop is fine.  He's started calling me every morning (OH HAPPY DAY!!!).
