Parenting question
prechrchet:
Our beautiful little girl, that we brought home five months ago, is now 14 months old. She has learned so many things, I cannot begin to list them all.
However, her latest trick is one that I would love to deter, if at all possible.
Question: how do you teach a 14 month old to not pick her nose?
(I'll wait until the laughter dies down.)
Harriet Jones:
Duct tape? ;)
Gentle redirection might work -- move her hand away and give her something to hold.
Also, you might try to teach her how to blow her nose, if her nose is actually bothering her.
Semi-related anecdote:
This reminds me of a little girl (maybe 5yo) I saw in an airport with her thumb in her mouth and her index finger in her nostril.
Cupcake Fiend:
I haven't been able to stop my four-year old yet.
I just remind him every time I catch him, and hand him a tissue.
Thing 2 always sucks on his middle and ring fingers (Love it because it looks like he's making the "I love you" sign). But that index finger always seems to find its way into his nose!!
IndianInlaw:
The only thing I can suggest is to set a timer to ring at random times. If it rings and she is NOT, well, you know, she gets a sticker. Ring the living daylights out of it the first day, then less and less.
Jaywalker:
interrupt, re-direct, aggressively clean her nose when she does this
as she gets older, teach her that this is a behavior one does privately (so the 4 year old should be taught that this is bathroom behavior) the 15th month old, though, can only be guided into other activity and make sure the nose is kept clean
