Why so many Jills?
« on: February 24, 2007, 05:36:47 AM »
I didn't want to clog up one of the main boards, but in a lot of the submissions I have noticed the name of the offender is "Jill" (it's my sister's name so it stands out for me!)
I can understand where "Jack and Jill" are the couple, but is there any particular association with naughty or badly behaved Jills?

Just wondering if it's some sort of cultural thing I've missed!

I don't know why Jill and Susie seem to be so popular, but it makes a story so much easier to follow than when people talk about J and S and the terrible things they have done.

That's true. And Tammy / Tanya seems fairly popular.

The names Jane and Anna come up quite often too.

Someone needs to write about the wedding of Archibald and Veronica-Marie and balk the trend! Maybe I just imagined there were more Jills because I noticed the name. I suppose it's easier to use fairly short and easy to recognise names when you're telling a longer story.

I notice the many Janes, because my daughter's name is Jane.

I'm also a Susie.  Didn't know I was supposed to be so inept.   ;D

I vote we start substituting "Gunther" and "Hildigard".  No particular reason, I just like saying those names.
"POCKETS!"  From the new Dr. Who, "Runaway Bride" extra geek points if you laugh.

I like them too. I like to use "interesting" names if I need to protect the privacy of someone I'm telling a story about.
