I can't imagine a legitimate charity having to accost people on the street.  Something is very fishy here.  I'd be tempted...and probably would...call the police to let them know about what happened and where it occurred.  Should they have a permit to solicit in such a fashion?  Did they have permission to be where they were?  Bet the answer is no, they didn't have a permit...and no they didn't have permission.  YES they were attempting a hard-sell rip-off scheme!

I'd be worried that he had just photocopied the form and was trying to pocket the "donations" for himself!

You should notify these charities that you were put off donating to them by the tactic.  If enough people call or write them to say that the dollars (or pounds or euros) are going elsewhere because of this, charities will think twice before employing these companies.  As in all things, money talks.
