Merry Christmas (2nd notice)

My son joined a national organization that advocates for those with his disability.

He gets their monthly magazine, along with reminders to renew his membership...and requests for donations.

All well and good.

He got a Christmas card from them.  It contained an envelope for him to mail a donation.

Hey, send your members a card and ask for donations, but please not at the same time.

I know mailings cost money, but this was sort of icky.

I got something very similar today from the SPCA.

A couple of years ago, our Board of Trustees sent out Christmas cards to all of the staff members. The personal note included a request that we donate to the Annual Appeal. I decided not to donate that year and promptly told my director why I wasn't giving any money.

One year we donated to a national charity that assists children. It was a serious decision for us, we are not wealthy and we budgeted that into our Christmas finances.

About a week before Christmas, we got a phone call that they were running short and needed more money. It was a strong-arm kind of call, too, very high pressure.

Frankly, it put us off from ever giving again to that charity.

I got a couple of those kinds of cards this year too.  It's soooo tacky!  They were immediately tossed in the trash.

I got something very similar today from the SPCA.

I used to get them from the SPCA, too. From them, somehow, i didn't mind it so much. I'd donated to them so figured it came with the territory. What i did mind was when i'd get the same from other animal oriented organizations, especially extremist ones i definitely had never contacted. Grrrrrr!
