help order gift in England
« on: December 10, 2006, 09:59:03 AM »
I just finished ordering chocolates (See's) for my husbands siblings for Christmas -- but mailing to the UK from the US would be many times the value of the gift.  There must be great chocolates in England that I could order on line and have sent there.

Can anyone recommend an on line company that sells good chocolates in England?

What sort of chocolate do they like?

Cadbury's is indeed wonderful chocolate, but it's volume rather than experience.
Thorntons are the 'good' high street chocolatier. Their chocs are a cut above grocery store chocolates. Warning: their 'single estate' range is nothing like their other chocolates, it's much less sweet and more about 'tasting'.
Hotel Chocolat is for those who appreciate fine chocolates. Their chocolates are inventive and yummy but they are still more expensive.

It depends on what sort of chocolate you are looking for. If it's good, special stuff, then try the Chocolate Society http://www.chocolate.co.uk. Rococo chocolates is another exquisite one, that does online sales http://www.rococochocolates.com.

I can definitely recommend Thorntons - their chocolates are delicious and they do a good selection, so you're bound to find something that your family members will like.

these suggestions from all of you have been very helplful -- I have already looked at several of the web sites and will order from one of them

when I tried just googling for chocolates in England I didn't come up with them -- so thanks a bunch -- I'd rather put the $$$ into the candy than the postage and it is ridiculous this time of year for international parcel delivery --now all I have to cope with is the crash of the dollar LOL

edited to clarify -- I have one SIL and family in England -- everyone else is here and getting See's

I LOVE See's! When we lived in California, my youth group used to sell them for fundraisers. We are sort of in the same boat as you, but reversed. DH loves Hobnobs (original, dark chocolate). You can get them everywhere in the UK, but they are so impossible to find in the states.

Seconded on Hotel Chocolat.  Also, I'm not sure if you can order them online, but Selfridges does nice chocolate gift boxes, and you may be able to order something similar from Harvey Nichols or Harrods, though it won't be cheap.

I just remembered that my SIL's husband is vegan -- and the Hotel Chocolat
web site includes vegan candy so I will try them -- only problem is that their
web site breaks down before I can complete the order -- hope to hear back from them on how to do this without paying for an international long distance call
