Board Etiquette question
« on: February 28, 2007, 06:17:45 AM »
Hi, still relatively new here so this may be standard etiquette for this board, but I've never seen it anywhere else, so I have to ask...

Whenever someone mentions gay people, it's typed g*a*y or g@y.  Why?  I've noticed that lesbian is typed out properly.  It sort of reminds me of some religions typing G-d because they consider it a dishonor to type the whole word.  I can't believe that's the reason for this, though.  gay is the standard and not an epithet as the f word would be.  I've read the administrative posts about word filtering... could it be that this perfectly acceptable word hits the filter sensors?

Just curious.. thanks.

uhh, nevermind.  I see it does hit the filters.  How does this make sense?  lol.  It's hardly a dirty word, and if someone uses it to mean happy, is it still asterisked?  Don't understand the rationale behind this, I guess..

I believe the board was getting some, um, *inappropriate* banner ads without that in the filter.
