Shredded rotisserie chicken mixed with salad greens and tomatoes, hot bread, yellow raspberries, cream and oatmeal shortbread.
If wisdomís ways you wisely seek,
Five things observe with care,
To whom you speak,
Of whom you speak,
And how, and when, and where.

I needed comfort food, so I had a grilled peanut butter and bacon sandwich. Much better!

I had someone over last night for a partly social, partly business conversation. I wanted a simple meal whose prep and serving wouldn't distract us.

Menu was:

Brats on a bun, homemade coleslaw, blueberry dumplings with vanilla ice cream.

Order of battle:

Made coleslaw the day before
Started the brats boiling about a half-hour before she came over, so they'd be cooked through.
Prepared the dumpling dough (mix dry ingredients, cut in shortening).
Mixed blueberries, sugar, and water

When she arrived:
Put brats in broiler to crisp up as we talked.
Served brats, rolls, and coleslaw.
Ate; talked.
Added milk to dough, form dumplings (still talking)
Put blueberries and dumplings in pan to cook (still talking)
Serve dessert.

Went like a smoothly oiled machine!
Bingle bongle dingle dangle yickity-do yickity-dah ping-pong lippy-toppy too tah.

Sounds like a great plan, Ms_Cellany!

My husband threw me off by deciding to cook (he probably does dinner once every 3 weeks; he's more of a breakfast/PB&J chef), and before I knew it I was being asked to season everything and tell him how to do the rest.

I was going for a kind of crisp, honey-mustard-glazed prep on the kale and carrots, and they turned out soggy and overly spiced; the veggie kielbasa was dry and the grilled onions were half-cooked. Oh, well, at least my pickle spear was zesty & crunchy!

Because of posts on this site, I am now having a BLT and a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and tomato. DH is having smothered chicken with bacon, cheese and tomato.

Making a super easy, super spicy stir fry that we've been having a lot. Tonight's protein of choice is some nice beef.
