I broke the mold!

Scritzy:
I know there are some soapmakers out there.

I'm making glycerine soaps as "stocking stuffers" this year. The first batch turned out pretty icky-looking, but it was my first batch.

The second batch looked fine; I even mixed some really pretty colors. However, when it came time to unmold the soap, it was all stuck so tightly that I broke the mold!

I'm going to get some new molds tomorrow, but does anyone have any pointers for me?

Hi;

          My youngest daughter (12) and I made some of those last week. To get them out of the mold, the directions said to put it in warm water for a few minutes. That helped some, but I also put a butter knife between the soap and the mold to loosen it. The soap edges aren't all that smooth, but after a couple uses, you can't tell.

Can you spray the molds with Pam, or maybe rub a little baby oil into them without spoiling the soap? Onyl thing that I can think of that may help...
BTW, good to see you back around (former Chattmomma here) I was wondering if the faeries carted you off!

Scritzy:
I don't know if butter or Pam would work, but warm water and a butter knife might. Thanks!

Chattmomma, I haven't been carried off by fairies, but Christmas elves. I'm so darn busy!! But hey, all part of the season to be jolly, fa la la la la.  ::)

I think after they are cooled completely, you can also put them in the freezer for a few minutes. It makes them easier to pop out.
