I saw a "Puggle" today!
« on: December 12, 2006, 08:28:49 AM »
Now,here in Australia,a puggle is generally known as a baby echidna..but that wasnt what i saw(though echidnas are one of my favs)

Im guessing cause its close to Christmas, and people still dont get their pets de-sexed,the pet shop has a high number of various pets in their store.

Puppies,kittens,fish,mice,birds,rabbits etc

But i saw one puppy all by itself, and the sign said 'Puggle'

So i just had to ask on of the assistants as to what a 'puggle'is??

Of course,its a Pug X Jack Russel!!

The most cutiest thing! :)

My dog is also a cross, but not sure what to call her..shes a yellow Labrador X Staffy.

What have you got or come across?
 ;D

I think the absolute strangest dog combo I ever heard of was a Siberian Husky/Shitzu mix.

I don't even wanna think about how that one came to be...

Yes, these cross breeds are cute.  They're quite trendy right now.  Good irresponsible parents of the human variety do not create crossbreeds like this for profit.  They breed to continue the integrity of a certain breed of dog.  Most good irresponsible parents of the human variety operate at a loss, instead of a profit.  It's done for the love of the breed, not to make money.  Because there are no standards for these crossbreeds, the only irresponsible parents of the human variety that do this are backyard irresponsible parents of the human variety and puppy mills, and yes... the key here is for profit.  While they'll deny it, most pet stores get their stock of puppies from puppy mills.

Basically, cute as it was, you just saw a very expensive mutt with most likely a very bad genetic background.  If somebody were to go to the humane society, they likely could find a dog that looks similar, for a lot less money and probably with a better genetic background.   :-\

A "doodle" is a poodle cross bred with something else - I just forget what at the moment.  They are being developed as a new breed for those who are allergic to most dogs.  The idea is that the poodle has hair instead of fur and far fewer people are allergic to poodles than most other dogs.

Poodles were hunting dogs and bred for intelligence and the desire to please humans.  So they have a number of traits that work welll for service dogs.

I have an on-line friend with a son who needs a service dog - but the fur/allergy question is made worse by a tracheotomy (breathing apparatus).  A doodle was the ONLY option............

I had heard that a puggle was a pug and a Beagle, not Jack Russell. Weird looking dogs...bastardized pug-things.

Our dog when I was young was a beagle/German shepard mix. Great watch dog, great with kids. Kind of funny looking, though.

I was SO excited for this post, and then so let down.  In Jr. High they sold these cute beanie filled mole like animals that had different names and came in velvet bags and they were called Puggles. It's actually an Australian company too.  I loved that Puggle. I have never see anyone else sell them.

My niece a few years ago found my Puggle and fell in love and begged me for it for months.  I tried doing all sorts of research and it seems the company that made them is now out of business, so I in the end I relented and gave her mine. But if you've ever see these toys in Australia please let me know where!

And the dog sound cute.

I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! They were a 'fad' toy many years ago. I dont have one,but i think perhaps a few must have cause i remember seeing them around alot.

I wonder whatever happened to the toys??I wonder if Ebay would have them? The Australian Geographic store sells varies Aussie soft toys/merchandise..but i dont guess they would sell puggles though..

Could be a mission to try and find one!*L*

Just like how i was trying to find those 'Texas Instruments'(if im correct)Speak N Math,Speak N Spell..

Anyone remember those?

I had the Speak N Math, probably back in the 80's or something..yet have no idea what happened to it.

Im still bad at math..*L*

YES! The Speak N' Spell! You have NO idea how badly I wanted one of those, and yet never got one.

I don't even know why I wanted one, since I was a pretty good speller (some would say excellent; I won 2 school spelling bees and once made top 10 at regionals as a kid). I guess I just wanted one because they were prominently featured in the movie E.T. and while nowadays that movie kinda creeps me out, back then I loved it.

Thank you for taking the time to post this. It's a shame when unscrupulous people are getting rich from the suffering of animals, while others die in shelters for lack of homes. ???
