spin off from "That time of the month?"
« on: March 15, 2007, 02:46:07 PM »
I almost posted this the "That time of the month?" thread, but I was worried I'd cause a ruckus.

Anyways, the old "That time of the month?" question is why I always get so annoyed when women announce "Oh, ignore me, I have PMS" or "I must have had a PMS moment".    It just leads men to think that any time a woman dares to have a strong emotion or opinion, she must be on her period, and as such, can be ignored.

Call me old fashioned, but any reference to that is TMI.

On a "need to know" basis.

And trust me, coworkers do not need to know.

I would say that there may be a time when co-workers need to know.  I remember a time when the temperature of our office could vary greatly from hour to hour.  Both of us were women who might have been Menopausal.  It only made sense for us to ask, "Is this place getting hot or is it me?"

Often, the place was getting very hot and it had nothing to do with our hormonal changes.

I think using that as an excuse is simply that - an excuse. Maybe I just don't understand but I've NEVER gotten cranky or emotional or upset or anything during "that time of the month." I think I get a little more hungry than usual, but really... I think a lot of women hide behind it. I'm not saying ALL women do in every situation, but... on the whole I'd say a lot of it is rubbish!

I think the "it is just me, or is it hot/cold" question is fine, given that there are any number of reasons why someone might be cold when everyone else is hot.   It's not necessarily a "woman" thing - I know guys who sweat at 70 degrees, so.
