How sweet!
« on: March 16, 2007, 05:32:06 PM »
I've been trying to train a coworker on a new study we're working on.  I've only been on the study myself for a few months, but my boss apparently felt that I knew enough to help this newer person (to the study - not the company) learn the ropes.

I don't consider myself a teacher.  I try to be patient.  And, I try to teach things the way I'd want to be taught.  But, I don't think I do a good job.

But, I was just talking to this coworker on the phone and she said, "I just told [another coworker - one who's higher than us] that you've really been a help to me in learning how to do this study.  You've really been patient with me and taught me well.  Thank you for helping me."

I know it sounds simple.  Just a "thank you" from a coworker.  But, you have no idea how sweet this was to me.  And, how it makes me feel.  I've been feeling like I don't know what I'm doing here.  To have someone tell me that, yes, I did do something right and that they appreciate me really makes my day.

She said she'd tell my boss, too.  Yea! :)

Amazing how much a Thank You can mean.

Apparently you HAVE done a good job teaching.

I teach a lot of people jobs in the factory where I work, and the first thing I do is try to teach them in "normal" words not the silly jargon that the techs think up. (I guess you would consider all of us unskilled labor, no electronics degrees, just hired to put part A in slot B)
