That "little glitch" was me trying to change the forum's URL.
[/quote]

Ahhhh!  I thought that may be the case.  I got to the new forum by clicking on my bookmark for the old one.  It brought me right here.  But I haven't tested getting back by logging out and re-trying it.  I'm skeered to!  lol

I fixed it so the URL is back to www.ehell.com/smf  .  What I am going to do is create a forwarding redirect page for the old URL which will take people to the new one.   There is probably a way to change the forum URL correctly but it didn't work the way I have done it with the prior forum so we'll leave it be.

Well, Ms Forum Leader, I would like to extend my profound thanks to your husband and you for keeping the discussion groups alive and kicking. You have helped me remain sane during the most insane times at work.  For what it's worth, this very discussion board has kept me from strangling my boss more than once.  If he knew about it, I'm sure he'd thank you, if he wasn't such a......oh, words fail me sometimes....

Because of the need to get a new forum up and running quickly, there have been some design and customization left undone.  This will be a work in progress so don't be surprised if the colors change from minute to minute.  We're trying several different themes and css style changes.

You won't find many changes from the old forum regarding features.  You still have private messaging, spell check, many posting options, collapsible folders, signatures, smileys, etc.  In fact, I believe notifying the moderators of a problem post is easier in this forum application.

You'll also notice this forum allows "child" boards (see in Off Topic/Ehellion Meet and Greets for an example). If you have a great idea for splitting a folder into separate folders or creating "child" folders, please make those suggestions asap to this thread.

I had time with the other forum to test and get familiar with it all.  However, I don't have that  luxury this time so some permissions have not been enabled yet but probably will be.  Just be patient while we get our sea legs here.  If you notice a glitch, let me know.

I know this is frustrating but imagine how I feel!

Okay, I'm a total dummy. How do I reply without using a quote?  ???

Is it the little conversation balloon icon (personal reply online)?

This is embarrassing.  :-[

just use the reply button at the bottom or top of the page.  Someone mentioned it is a default 'reply to all' and will be posted in the order it was received.

the personal reply online will send a message to only that person (see top of page, where it says "Hello [name]" just below that is "you have __messages, __ are new" That is where personal messages are sent to.  It's like sending email, but only within the forum (thier yahoo or hotmail doesnt get emailed when you use this option).

hope this helps!

That's what the quote button in the upper right hand corner is for.  And I'm SO glad you made it!

To reply to a specific post, click on the "quote" to the right of the subject.

You need to put this code in for your sig, remove the spaces before you do:

But how do you reply to a specfic message?

You reply using the quote button, as you did above...and if you like, you can edit it out to quote only the specific part of that person's post you would like to reply to (like I did here). Now, instead of the header of the post showing who it's in reply to, the whole post is "to all" and within your post, you can quote others or just type your reply. The upside is that you can now reply to many different people at once within one post instead of creating many new posts (which IMO, helps with the "LOL" or "POD" replies!  :) )

**ETA: Whoops, this thread moves fast...disregard my reply since it's pretty redundant now... ;) LOL

The little conversation balloon under someone's profile info on the left is for PM (private messaging).

You can also post multiple quotes in your message by scrolling down to the list of messages and hitting the "Insert quote" button to the right.

Also, a good way to show who you are replying to without having to quote them, (and to reply to multiple people in one message) is to just use their name. Like this:

Scritzy, your coke is running out!

EhellDame: Get Scritzy a Coke! Hurry!

That way won't notify them of unread messages however. It is a way to communicate back and forth as long as people understand the forum software won't pick it up and tell them the reply post exists.

Jeanne: Are you sure? I just clicked on "Show new replies to your posts" and was taken to a thread I had posted in earlier today that someone had replied to, but hadn't quoted me. She wasn't talking to me, either, just the general public.
